NoTail 2,067
Gamblers can lose that amount overnight, and indeed some have.
the stinking enigma 11,910
If you buy a ferrari with the proceeds it can be taken away. If you say you blew it gambling then there's nothing to take away. A wise move by this chap i'd say. Respect.

Hard to believe every penny was apparently pissed away gambling online. He has lost his big house

I’ve seen how money can quickly disappear never to be found again in divorce and bankruptcy cases. I’d love to know how much evidence the police and courts seek in these cases where people just turn out their pockets and go “Sorry I lost it all gambling and there’s not one penny left. I only have the clothes I’m standing in and the rest has all been squandered on absolutely nothing” It takes some going to have absolutely not one penny left after you’ve stolen £500k. You’d hope forensic computer people go through their online accounts and banking arrangements etc to establish that they have actually got nothing to show for themselves. mannin 16
I can't find a reference to online gambling, just to gambling. I have only seen the report in the OP so I am guessing that some other report contains more information as to the nature of his gambling.

The difference is that online gambling would provide an easily obtainable/verifiable log for law enforcement to confirm where the proceeds went, when they were spent and over what duration. Online gambling sites demand ID such as passports and utility bills. Other forms of gambling such as casinos and private card games do not offer as much traceability. The cash could be taken out of cash machines, supposedly 'lost gambling', and hidden under his mattress waiting for him to get out! NoTail 2,067
TurricanII I'm afraid I do jot understand nearly any of your post. The words are understandable but there seems to be no meaning. Are you suggesting that I can't lose all my money on Pokerstars because they have my passport details? But I could lose it all at the casino on the prom?
TheTeapot 11,436
I think the suggestion is that you can prove you lost all your money at pokerstars, but not so easily at the casino.

Think what he/she is saying is there will be a log of deposits/withdrawals on a site like pokerstars whereas no trail if you went to the casino or William hills
