These days yes, but the carrots you buy in the shop are a domesticated cultivar of Dacus Carota, or wild carrot, which has a spindly white root. You can also get purple ones.

Although I suppose with the former nurseries there was once a Dutch connection at the bottom of Richmond Hill.
