Richmond hill

It’s a clusterfuck of epic proportions. Reading that I think you’re right so it will be single lane, 30mph, with no overtaking for months. Where else on earth would they come up with such a utterly moronic solution to a shit road job?

Was it the DOI, Colas, or the lads cowboys on the "Friary Park job" who did the Richmond Hill job ?

It seems that a lot of the skills involved in maintaining our roads have been lost in the mists of time?

Aye £130,000 a year manager's are about as much use as a chocolate teapot at laying tarmac.

That’s an unbelievably stupid solution. We can’t stop people overtaking so now we’ll just half shut the whole bloody road and make it one lane to further inconvenience the public. The DOI must be the most incompetent department of IOMG by miles. It’s a breathtakingly stupid solution. Why not just hand out push bikes and make people cycle up the hill and give them their car back at the top? That would be about as stupid as this action. All because the DOI totally fucked up in the first place. This must be 6 weeks of increasingly stupid solutions to the fact that they did a totally shit job in the first place!

It does day that the work will be carried out when the weather is warmer, so i read from that, it won`t be any time soon,  maybe mid may / early June, ( if this was the TT course it would be a main priority, and done next week  ).

Who is covering the cost of this mess ?

That was all just tongue in cheek ffs. Even coppers have senses of humour.

They don't have a strong understanding of the English language.

Nah, it all went down hill after PC Shakespeare left. ;)

I do not profess to being an expert on traffic systems design or road surfacing (an ironic entrée), but it seems whenever there are countless upon countless errors, mistakes and issues, there is little consequence or repercussion (at least publicly).

  • Richmond Hill can only be repaired when it is warm. What do other countries do in colder climates? If this particular material/surface can only be repaired when warm, then why use it?
  • The contractor is at fault - surely there are penalties/warranties that go beyond just fixing it. Firms normally have to demonstrate a level of insurance for exactly this. If it is poor quality, has the company been eliminated from future tenders?

The journey has only increased by around 30 seconds, which is not the end of the world - but this is merely another instance of what many describe as amateur/incompetance.

The 'new' corner they implemented on Johnny Wattersons (just down from the Cat) is not only non-sensical, but it has a shocking road surface (due to the increased wear of a corner). The surface dressing did wonders for the handling... The logic behind the construction of that questionable corner is equally illogical.

Looking at the other side.

Are DOI's challenges due to a lack of budget / lack of expertise / lack of leadership / lack of resource?

Comparatively, how well funded are the Island's roads per-capita/per-mile to a region in the UK/EU?

This warm line is more utter nonsense, it isn't even cold at the moment, 10 degrees during the day, nowhere near freezing at night. Total bullshit.

Just give up on that road south, its not like the airport is all that, nothing in Castlteown, religious nut jobs and fatties in PSM and PE, Mount Murray is something we all should forget and nobody should ever have to visit Ballasalla again.

There was little wrong with the original Richmond Hill that some enforcement of speed limits wouldn't have cured ! I can't remember it falling to pieces all the time.

The farce continues as they are repairing the old Castletown road as well, at the new bridge they installed and closed the road for for 6 months last winter.

I presume to soften the ‘landing’ when you come off the bridge. Something which should never have been signed off in the first place.

You can only imagine the clusterfuck the promenade is going to be.
