But surely the establishment, such as it is, is worth defending. Our great institutions, our public services, universities, military etc.

That isn't the establishment. Those are institutions which are used by the establishment.

And the "anti-establishment" movement you referred to was created by the establishment to promote their agenda.

What a dumb thread.

I expect the Beeboids were hoping to find some sort of racist slant to this but the reason you don't see many young Indians, Bangladeshis or Pakistanis involved in football is very simple: Cricket.

You're talking through your ass.

the BBC are too left-wing on domestic and social issues, and too right-wing etc

The whole left vs right thing is made up anyway so not a helpful way to measure output.

You're contradicting yourselves as usual.

No, it's well known the whole 60s movement was a PSYOP by the intelligence services. Where do you think LSD came from?

The fact that LSD had been tested by the military - including on some who later promoted it, does mean that its widespread use was a govt conspiracy.

No, but the prevalence of drugs, the whole drug war (which is really a war on poor people / perpetuating a class system), the trafficking of drugs by the intelligence services to fund their operations outside of the eyes or controls of institutions that would otherwise provide democratic oversight, is all a matter of historical record.

LSD hasn't really got anything to with any of the drugs you might be talking about here. It's never been a significant money maker because it's not typically habitual.

The BBC is and always have been a propaganda tool for the  Crown and it's getting worse.

What's getting worse is the tripe posted on here. It usually nosedives during the summer hols but even so.

The island seems very right wing but that's hardly surprising. After all, the entire island has been completely whored to a totally amoral finance sector. Unfortunately they brought their ethos of mercenary greed with them.

A good 'state of the nation" indicator - every morning our local Co-Op takes delivery of a massive pile of Daily Wails

and just three Grauniads. One of which is mine....

So most folks on here will think the BBC has a left wing bias because the Daily Wail says it has!

Sales of physical newspapers have been dropping for years - I doubt many tech-literate folk under the age of fifty ever pay for a newspaper.

So they miss out on depth, comment, alternative viewpoints etc etc.

All they get is snippets and soundbites.

Little wonder so many folk these days have little idea about whats going on around them.

Their loss....

In retrospect I'm wrong.

We ALL lose.

Brexit being a very good case in point.....
