Enterprise Development Scheme.

Recommended Posts

Granada news last night, IOM enterprise development scheme abandoned, no longer necessary because our economy is doing so well, does this mean the toilet tax can be abandoned too? can completely free bus travel for  over 60's be reinstated? will the Chrismas bonus for OAP's be raised up back to the previous level, I am delighted our economy is doing so well, it must be due to the 30 million take at TT, wonderful, hurrah:sorcerer:

E-Gaming.

Everybody else is struggling.

Our eggs are in one basket. If they fail, we all suffer.

Same happened when the finance industry took over. Tourism went - all our eggs in the one basket. Strange how those in power at the time never seem to learn

Alternatively you could take the more accurate view that tourism was long dead and the finance / film / gambling industries have been propping it up ever since.

Tourism hardly "dead" it certainly took a massive nose dive and when the Island embraced finance / film / gambling, not a lot was done to encourage tourism. Several half arsed attempts and that's it. Couple this with the lack of hotels on the island and we're back to all our eggs in the one basket again

It might even be worse than that, this time. When the finance sector was in full flow those who quoted "one basket" were regularly assured that it was "diverse" and would last eternity.

How "diverse" is e-gaming, either in comparison or otherwise? Genuine question.

Not very diverse at all. It will go somewhere else eventually.

So, does this (and this) mean there's to be a free-for-all, for mates of mates?

I'm very concerned that there'll be almost zero independent adjudication and outside expert opinion on current and future applications.

Whatever the demerits of the SPARK relationship/experience the scheme had some oversight at least on an ongoing basis. The new arrangements, seems to me, is that we won't know if there's been a fuck up until it's too late and of course no one who will hold there hands up and take responsibility because it will be a collective decision based on people, bar one, who will have bugger all idea of how these things work or have ANY experience in business at a practical level (present Minister excepted of course with his online TT shop!).

After all, the Isle of Man....Where You Can (with other people's money).

Note the new "Digital Creative Fund". Not sure why this needs a carve out from the replacement EDS.

The last scheme was so beset with T&C and looking to invest in only guaranteed success that they couldn’t give the money away.

You should expect a 30-40% fail rate. Losing all or most of the cash invested. It’s the winners who make it worthwhile. It’s a huge attrition rate.

But I suspect that’s not politically or publicly acceptable. Imagine the faux ( or maybe real ) outrage on here and FB IoM Politics pages.

Of course, apart from cash, most applicants for dragon type investment are looking for the added value that contacts and mentoring can bring. That may be a conspicuous absence in an IoMG Scheme.

But instead of relaxing the T&C's they've opted for virtually no independent scrutiny at all. It'll all end in tears.
