Rates Reform

Recommended Posts

Chris Thomas is now embarking on rates reform to try and find a fairer method of assessing them, good luck with that.    Whichever way the coin falls it will cost more that is the only certainty.

Only three things certain in life.

Death, rising taxes and long-winded justifications for those rises.

And we definitely get all three. With the second two in spades.

If this reform is anything like his goverment reforms, I for one will not be holding my breath for any ground breaking solutions.

I understand he proposes that the rates should be based on the size of a property.

Why don't they just bring in poll tax.

Let's face it, though, the idea of basing it on market rates (of property value) is absolutely laughable when they're artificially inflated and rigged by a blatantly corrupt property market.

Why not combine two systems, keep the rates we have now but also add a supplementary payment based on the poll tax system.

Scrap rates altogether and simply increase income tax by the amount required to cover rates revenue. Simples

And those that are below the IT threshold? How will they pay for the services they receive?
