Why should hard pressed low to middle earners be taxed on the value and/or size of their properties?

Could be said to be a '' Know your place'' rule'? Working classes to have small houses, mansions for the uber riche!

........but what if Joe Bloggs has converted the top floor into two flats, 1000 quid a month? Would that be reflected in a 'Retail Value' evaluation?

Seems like there will always be anomalies, if you don't ever go out at night, why should you pay for street lighting? etc etc.

In Joe Bloggs, house, say 3 stories, value 300k but with 2 flats, value 400k??? Now suppose someone, a new purchaser, only wants it as a family home, to them the value is the 300k one. Will they be able to challenge the ratable value???

Makes thr Council Tax model seem quite simple, a per person charge. Ah but...................

60 thou million zillion, ( and that's just Local News!!)

,,,but the dole and soc sec receivers will always be the chaf! MHks in their winnowing will ignore  the flak that this will bring about for the unfortunate few and play to the braying middle classes that bark louder than their bite but are heavily supported by the voting classes of whom, the MHKs are totally dependent.

There has to be a means whereby, perhaps via the landlords rent, that all residents are contributing to the local taxes, otherwise this will remain an area of contention for the right wing anti soc sec brigade.

Let's introduce a 'Window' tax instead, so that some of our MHKs could at least stand a chance of understanding it.

Why don't they just bring in poll tax.
