Manx Youth Parliament!

Recommended Posts

Just read this on Manx Radio

I personally think that if approved it will no doubt slow down our already slow process of Tynwald and introduce more bloody red tape in the do gooders (i.e. we better consult the children before doing anything further).

Tanya August-Hanson MLC should get on with scrutinising legislation not making policy, that would be up to our present elected MHK's not an unelected person like her.

I assume that this youth parliament will be democratically elected, unlike our recently demographically engineered LegCo?

What's the difference between Manx Youth Parliament and Junior Tynwald?

Had a quick look at the date there to see if it was April 1st. Nope.

The Manx Youth Parliament will no doubt have a group of precocious stuck up brats being coached by their yuppee parents encouraging them into becoming a future politician whereas Junior Tynwald gathers a few kids from ordinary schools and brings them to the House of Keys and lets them ask questions for one day only.

Wait till you have dealings in person - she can't go 2 sentences without telling you how important she is and sadly lacking in basic skills and intelligence.

Elected on the Manx Radio ticket by the spineless that are already on the inner circle - Terrible

How much will this little exercise cost the taxpayers? What is hoped to be achieved - increased voting figures? Increased participation by ‘yoof’ on the island. Or a way for MHKs and MLCs to grandstand and show the kids how it’s done. I’m sure one or two of our MHKs will be first to offer them lessons on being an MHK!

Our youth have an appalling knowledge of our political system it’s history and effectiveness.

They need to smarten up quickly, the present and past administrations have squandered huge sums of our money

on feathering their nest without  giving any thought on a legacy for future generations.

This will continue unless our kids start to get a grip of what is happening and stop the gravy train destroying their future.

Sure as hell this present generation do not have your interests at heart, they have to much to lose.

The next generation will stop the gravy train just for long enough to get on board.

She should get on to the job centre, not scrutiny of legislation. Time to abolish the Legislative Council and halve the number of MHKs.

Synical reply.

Absolutely correct.

The political system is geared to ensure that future generations who enter politics guarantee that the gravy train

keeps going.

Sadly, you may be right. But also remember that the next generation includes fiscal conservatives. In fact, "Generation Z" according to a number of studies and polls appear to exhibit attitudes reactionary and counter to those of the previous generation, apparently being more conservatively minded. I hope this is true. I even read it on the BBC News website years ago but the original article has disappeared -- probably worried a generation of fiscal conservatives might start asking questions about state funded media, as I hope they will with regards to Manx Radio here on the island.

They wish it were so but to paraphrase Top Gun, they're writing cheques their body can't cash. They can try and keep the train going but once the money has gone, they'll have no choice but to get out at the next stop.
