I've explained this before Derek. From a friend working for a firm who is responsible for lots of services  , not Auldyn etc , while they had a concept plan from day one ie what the finished job would

It's not Harmer's direct fault. Nor any of those we elect. APART from not having the departmental and relevant experience and balls to stand up to and question the reams of bullshitters and chanc

But the problem isn't the horse trams.  It's the corporate culture of the Manx civil service.  Rather than accept the reality of what their main job is, which is maintain existing structures in the mo

What really annoys me, is that Baker only took on responsibility for Highways, when this project was already a major fuck-up. He was perfectly placed to go in there, smack a few heads together, make an example of one or two whose incompetence had brought us to that point, and demonstrate some leadership and concern for the rapidly emerging waste of tax payer funds.

Instead, he just goes totally native, becomes an apologist for incompetent, and devious, clowns like Black, Longworth and Robinson, and allows then to contemplate a watered down plan, at higher cost. Baker should be much smarter than this.

If you have ever heard Baker speak in Tynwald you would know he is a business buzzword professional who toes the CoMin line on virtually everything so it's not a surprise they have tried to pull this on his watch.

"Save money" by cutting the tram line short... All of a sudden, a sea wall becomes vital. These guys have no problems whether hand sanitizer is available or not, their palms are greased well.

The sea wall is just appalling opportunism. It’s going to look hideous too. But it looks like some pencil pusher saw a global pandemic and a few deaths as an opportunity to get their own way on something unpopular that they’ve wanted to do.

If it's only 500m? Long wouldn't the sea just pour around either end of it?

FFS don't suggest that. There'll be another £100M to extend each end 40 miles.

It'll make Trump's wall look like a kid's Lego set.

The clowns have even managed to fuck this up. A sea wall is effective if it runs the whole length of the prom. It only needs to be about four feet high. If they can’t be arsed doing that then just run a bulldozer along the beach. Won’t stop the water but will reduce the amount of debris thrown along the prom. Cast your minds back to the last storm. Serious debris between Queens hotel and Broadway. Pretty much the same area where the beach runs up to the prom

if a hole in the wall in laxey didn't let the water through to flood the houses  i don't think the water in douglas bay will be smart enough to go round the ends of a wall either.

From iom news

’However, the development would provide substantial improvement to sea defence which is of significant benefit to the safe public use of the promenade and horse tram service and this to the local economy.’

FFS now we use the broken winded cart horses dragging victorian shite up and down the prom as a further excuse to spend more money ! so they can continue to make a loss ! Who the  ... is going to be riding the prom in open carriages when the sea is smashing against the new wall, what planet are these people on, meanwhile frontline services go to hell and are reduced to charities to try and raise funds !

You are talking about a Department that can waste money like it can go out of fashion, they had 4 UK consultants costing over £10,000 a week hired since June last year to "help" the management at Ellerslie due to staff shortages and show the locals how it is done on the adjacent Island, have we seen any improvements on the network? I can answer that with one word No! if anything the network is getting worse through lack of maintenance, they have got rid of the guys on the ground hoping to get contractors in unfortunatley there is no longer a workforce on Island waitng for the DOI to call. There is a Jetpatcher at Ellerslie that has not moved for nearly 2 years which cost over £100,000 apparently H&S stopped it being used and by the time they got that sorted they could not afford to put it on the road, someone will pick up a bargain at the next auction I believe it has done 11,000kms in 4 years.

Treasury need to get a grip of these people. We’re in the biggest financial hole we’ve ever been in and yet they’re magicking up schemes like this. It’s an insult to the public and an insult to the tax payer. Rumoured 3,000 unemployed this month but these buffoons want a new wall and some horse trams to play with. There is no basic grasp of reality being demonstrated at all.

Haven't you seen the crowds of people wanting to sunbathe on the prom and ride a tram during a hurricane?

Why did H&S stop it’s use?
