Promenade - Megathread

Recommended Posts

A stunning effort from the "DOI Sign Erecting Team" at the bottom of Belmont Hill. Obviously someone in the "Cycle Lane Office" didn't consult with the "Road Sign Office" about the possibility of sharing a pole which would make the job quicker, and be cheaper for the island's ratepayers........

and even more obtrusive, cluttered and useless.

I think you will find that some types of sign HAVE to have their own pole by law, sorry to break up a good old moan thread but that is the truth.

The UK are currently going through the process of introducing measures to dramatically reduce the amount of signage and road markings.

These measures will be introduced in 2015

No-one will ever find the museum now, let alone park there. (or not)

I think that the Netherlands was also instrumental in uncluttered roads and pathways..........brains not working too well at moment, (if ever).

Apparently an inbuilt and perhaps unique design feature is an isle of man constabulary police car and incident (flood warning) signs.

eta: this was this morning near to the firestation and warning of a big pool of standing water

It looks like the DOI are soon to be awarding more work to outside contractors.

From Manx Radio news:

Major cuts at DoI as government seeks £5m savings
Published online at 13/05/2014 12:35:00

A package of cutbacks including compulsory job losses is on the cards at the Department of Infrastructure, as it faces a £5 million reduction in its budget.

Minister Laurence Skelly has outlined the scale of savings he must find in the current year - as the department prepares to make a major contribution to re balancing the government's books.

In the past three years more than 100 full-time posts have gone at the DoI.

Staff are being offered further voluntary resignations but Mr Skelly says compulsory redundancies cannot be ruled out.

The department's now considering which taxpayer-funded services could in future be run privately but says no decisions have been made yet.

Mr Skelly says an immense challenge lies ahead:

You are assuming that there will be money left for contractors?

Pulrose Bridge traffic lights are working well, it's not even TT week yet and the queue was back nearly to Brown Bobby this morning :-(

It was backed up past the Brown Bobby at lunchtime, the loss of the pulrose filter lane is a major contributor.

Quite simply, the person who designed this (or told the designer to do it) should resign immediately and donate his pension to charity.
