Can someone explain to me the business case and need for allowing MER trams to run to the end of the promenade?

I've explained this before Derek. From a friend working for a firm who is responsible for lots of services  , not Auldyn etc , while they had a concept plan from day one ie what the finished job would

It's not Harmer's direct fault. Nor any of those we elect. APART from not having the departmental and relevant experience and balls to stand up to and question the reams of bullshitters and chanc

But the problem isn't the horse trams.  It's the corporate culture of the Manx civil service.  Rather than accept the reality of what their main job is, which is maintain existing structures in the mo

I sincerely hope that some of our elected have the backbone to ask questions about this. Not only the practicality if not safety grounds but on what political authorisation?

Aye.... but here's the thing....... the old Summerland site will be turned into a park & ride (car park) for those commuting into Douglas.

After all it worked so well when they did it earlier in the Prom project and laid on special buses.  With special trams they might be able to get the usage up into single figures.

You might get some people on the route 30 bus then.

It baffles me what that bus actually is for, apart from carrying air along the prom

It's because Longworth is convinced that there are thousands of people living along the Prom who would rather sit on a bus that takes 20-30 minutes to go all round the houses than walk/cycle along the Prom to get onto Town in less time than that.  It's also the reason for the traffic mess-ups at both ends of Glencrutchery Road, so the empty buses can complete their circuit on time.

Yes it will be great for all those tourists who stay in Ramsey (!) Roll off the boat as a foot passenger with all your bags for your 2 week stay then just walk to the end of the prom from the Sea Terminal and hey presto 2 hours later you’re in Ramsey. With a bad dose of piles from all the jolting from the solid wood seat of an MER tram. Utopia!

an opening then for somebody to sell cushions on the ferry crossing...

Well I was more referring to the speculated Birch Hill - Farmhill Light Rail project that is utter utter pie in the sky bollocks.

See, you're not thinking ahead here. This is where the overhead monorail comes into play...

It must be because they announced that you could ask for a free transfer ticket for some journeys from Onchan so why not just catch the route 1,2,11,12 etc up to Onchan and then transfer there to the equivalent routes going back into Douglas and the same coming from Onchan, change in Douglas with a free transfer if for some strange reason you wanted to go from Onchan to somewhere along the promenade. Be cheaper than running an empty bus around all day.

6 new buses have arrived and are parked at Banks Circus.

Well obviously - though in practice the people wanting to travel that way will probably be on free passes anyway.  But from what I gather, Longworth simply announced that he 'had' to do this and everyone else had to work round it.

And folk wonder why the buses aren't used. It's easier to plan a world trip.

Is my cynical mind deceiving me, or are there parallels to be drawn here with the construction of a carpark on Richmond Hill that our politicos claimed to know nothing about after its completion?
