You do realise this is not the final layer of tarmac? They’ll put that on right at the end, at which time those ramps up to the tramlines will disappear, and the drainage will (hopefully) work properly.,

No, I didn't realise that. That's why I raised the question. Thank you for your civil reply, unlike that other sanctimonious twat.

I've explained this before Derek. From a friend working for a firm who is responsible for lots of services  , not Auldyn etc , while they had a concept plan from day one ie what the finished job would

It's not Harmer's direct fault. Nor any of those we elect. APART from not having the departmental and relevant experience and balls to stand up to and question the reams of bullshitters and chanc

But the problem isn't the horse trams.  It's the corporate culture of the Manx civil service.  Rather than accept the reality of what their main job is, which is maintain existing structures in the mo

No.  Theres about 25 mm or so to still go on that part of the road which will enable any water to go into the run off already formed in the kerbs . Hence why water is gathered  currently . It should be fine when they finish the surface level. But I'm not 100% sure they have got levels right . Time will tell

Appreciate the informative reply. I didn't know. That's why I asked.

They also need to apply pressure to "old money" landlords to bring property up to scratch particularly in appearance where applicable. DBC could do their part here with incentivation via the rates system too.

Yes but the old money landlords will fight tooth and nail not to let that happen. I feel sorry for the younger generation.

When I spend over £20m on a bit of roadworking I would expect my manhole covers to at least look in line. Is there some technical reason that this has to look so naff?

They cut the infill slabs to line up properly,   you are probably criticising the best bit of work on the prom at the moment.   😁

Actually the manhole covers are in line, if you look at the road.  It's the rest of the paving that is at an angle - no doubt for some artistic reason that made it look pretty on the plans.

Manx Radios' new site has a photo accompanying the Empress drive delay.

It's of a City somewhere looking really nice, sunny, clean and lovely.

Wish I lived there rather than Douglas!!!

I can imagine the positioning of the new light columns will upset many with prams and wheel chairs etc. The new ones are  up the hill are in the dead centre of the pavement.

Just gone past there on the bus. That photo doesn't do the stupidity of it justice.

It'll also put off the skateboarders, the guy who has his dogs pulling him along, anyone with a wheelchair, and blind or partially blind people.

Who on earth authorised that to be plonked there?

Crazy.
