Barlow 992
Only an utter fool or someone who has a massively inflated opinion of themself would even think of another civil engineering project whilst the Promenade is in such a mess. 2

I'm sorry, but you are a little misled - your musings are entirely factual. Not only is the MER extension a significant part of the problem, but the people responsible for it are - at the very height of this monumental screw-up - suggesting that the railway could be extended to Birch Hill and Farmhill.
Banker 1,504
Regarding promenade delays, does anyone know why they don’t work on Sundays when it’s even quieter than the weekdays?

But if contractors are on a fixed price contract with time penalties surely it makes sense to work Sunday to try & finish on time?

If that's the case, a watertight government contract will be a first, most of them you can drive a coach and horses through !
doc.fixit 2,903
What a surprise, the flap gate is going to take considerably longer to finish.

On good authority, most of the issues have been caused by a ill prepared DOI planning which prevented a sensible work schedule and bigger work force. I believe that the day rate hours booked are very very high due to inability of contractors in early days to proceed .

I did overhear on the the workman talking to a business owner in one of the side streets that they were now doing 12 hour days, 7 days a week. I think that weather - like today for instance - may have an impact on that
Anyone 216
I heard from an impeccable source that no one knows what they are doing and that the DOI are particularly clueless. Clearly not true and just more internet nonense.
