Promenade - Megathread

The talk last week in the Queens was they are already 'substantially' over budget and the train tracks have been dropped from Loch Promenade/will now finish at the Villa Marina.

That seems to tie in with the fact that there looks to be no provisions for tracks by the old Villiers site

The train tracks have already been bought and paid for by the Govt so they will be put in.

The single lane track will run from the War Memorial to the Sea Terminal on the Prom side hence no provision for the track in the middle of the Prom.

I've explained this before Derek. From a friend working for a firm who is responsible for lots of services  , not Auldyn etc , while they had a concept plan from day one ie what the finished job would

It's not Harmer's direct fault. Nor any of those we elect. APART from not having the departmental and relevant experience and balls to stand up to and question the reams of bullshitters and chanc

But the problem isn't the horse trams.  It's the corporate culture of the Manx civil service.  Rather than accept the reality of what their main job is, which is maintain existing structures in the mo

No they won't. The time/disruption and chaos that the first little but of train track has caused has seen to it. Apparently they can use the same train track on the electric railway.

It's great news if Loch Prom will finally be tram free! It's just a shame they built any new track at the other end. Could have saved millions and reduced the work by months!

Still if it keeps a couple of sad anoraks happy then of course it's worth it!

It is well known that Ian Longworth wanted the new tram line to terminate at the Sefton, and apparently he threw his toys around quite a lot, but eventually lost the argument.

But, I'm sure that you are wrong about the plans for Loch Prom being changed, for two reasons:-

1. The section from the Sea Terminal to Broadway is subject to Planning Consent, which has been obtained, and so they can't just randomly change the plan, in such a fundamental way, on a whim.

2. The new red/pink concrete area on Loch Promenade, which will eventually be some sort of pedestrian refuge, in the middle of the new carriageway. Its position allows for where the 'middle' will be, when the horse trams are on the seaward side, next to the sunken gardens.

A bit of research and I'm told there's no further work on the northern end of the Promenade until they work out why their crappy concrete is cracking up.  So the long-suffering busineses have to endure an extended loss of parking.

Longworth is a twat who should have been finally seen off by the farce he’s created on that stretch of the prom. All so he can play at being the fat controller of loss making horse trams even if it bankrupts tax paying private businesses by cutting them off from passing trade for years and years.

How have they lost parking. The whole Loch prom is a feckin car park

There’s no spaces on the road now.

I know. They have offset that with the parking they have put on the promenade walkway.

The Promenade is more than just Loch prom. Don't you notice that when you're holding all the traffic up?

Why do you insist on showing everybody what a dimwit you are...:whatever:
