A fool and his money.....
The walkway was the one bit of the prom that was in fairly good shape, why didn't they just leave it as it was?
Two-lane
What do these people know about promenades? What they need is pink concrete, fairy queens and horses. Then they might get some visitors:

Assholes would be more appropriate. In my own humble opinion. Sorry no need for a magic wand they already are. Dirty Buggane
Yes ,surface is starting to break up as they decided to use it as a highway. The structure is concrete with an 1" of coloured bitchimum with stones rolled in whilst hot. Use as a highway has caused cracking which will allow water to get underneath and lift during winter storms.

Mistercee
Who on earth comes up with these "concept drawings" - the promenade walkway is not a bloomin' art installation - all that is needed is a durable, practical surface that will not be damaged by things like the funfair - it should be kept for pedestrians only. If they raise the existing sea wall by 1.2m pedestrians will hardly see anything of the beach - it will be like walking through a tunnel. It is time Government put an end to these crackpot ideas and started delivering what the people of this Island actually need. It is Fantasy Island at the moment!! 3

Non-Believer
There's a man driving a tractor around that beach (on a reportedly very lucrative DBC contract) most days pointlessly shovelling seaweed around without doing very much to dispose of the problem properly. One wonders how much sand and gravel he could have moved away from the seawall had he been engaged to do so rather than said futile seaweed operations.
