Promenade/Peel Road Megathread

Man in the pub says DOI are urgently taking core samples of the whole thing

Man in pub is wrong.

They did worry when some test samples came out with bad results and then checked/tested the whole project via specialised bore-holes. The issue is the private contractor's work - who now needs to resurface (foundations, or whatever roads have, are OK) at their own cost. So in this case, public sector is not at fault. How can we on MF deal with that one!

The award for worst resurfacing job must go to Finch Road.

A fortnight since it was done we already have two potholes and a surface that is simply falling apart.

Cracking job......literally.

I think it was subcontracted and done at the weekend when the DoI seemingly can't be arsed sending anyone down to monitor the work.

+1.

Shocking job, and right outside Tynwald too.

Laurence Skelly's Department?

Perhaps somebody rode his bicycle over it before it had 'gone off'.

TBT.

Peel road from QB to Ballakermeen drive closed due to sever flooding!

Let's give them the benefit of the doubt for now and assume a water main has burst or something, as obviously if it's due to some rain that would be a major embarrassment

Also went to the rally in port Erin last night. Nice to see some fairly big sections of the new road surface there being re laid before the job is even finished

shoddy work methinks.

Anything in common with Peel Road (subcontractors, same types of material/mix etc.)?

It was Island Drainage & Groundworks that did Finch Rd, which by pure coincidence is the same contractor responsible for the section of Peel Rd from QB to Ballakermeen.

They seem to know a lot more about Government Procurement than they do about making roads.

After seeing Peel road this morning think Island Drainage and Groundworks should drop the Drainage bit from their Company name!

Been away, arrived back today to find two areas of Top Dressing have been removed on the Four Roads to Port Erin master plan. Only been down a couple of weeks. Which experts are responsible for this one ? It would be a joke if it were not costing vast amounts of money when so many other things are being cut. It all feels so hopeless as no- one in places of responsibility will ever admit they are wrong. The arrogance is overwhelming.

Was in Waltons yesterday (Saturday). What a sorry mess. The first reasonable rain, the new road floods and as a result the water comes in under their front door soaking everything!

Someone really needs their ass kicked and told to find a new job.

On a side note, found a fantastic Sony 42" for £549, free 5 year warranty plus free delivery and install.

Currys have the same model, however, no free warranty, theirs costs £7.50 per month (over 5 years, 60 times £7.50 = £450.00) and £45.00 for delivery.

That's over £1000.00 in total....for the same set!!!

Real glad I checked all the 'hidden extras' at Currys.
