Good post Derek, but you blew it with your last sentence.

It's one of the stock answers with IoM Gov and it's agencies.

I honestly do think its a more difficult question than at first blush. A good press officer can take a lot of burden off the bobbies, make sure things do go out, and also keep things up to date and refreshed. So they represent value for money - but more than a patrolling cop?

Thought to be a stabbing? Perhaps the silence is fear of encouraging people to carry knives for 'self defence'?

Hardly silence if you and Manx Radio have now broadcast it...

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department at Police Headquarters, Douglas are investigating an incident involving a group of males and females, which occurred during the early hours of Saturday the 20th April 2019 in the vicinity of Victoria Road, Douglas.

Investigations are ongoing at this time but Officers can confirm that although injuries were sustained by some parties, all parties have subsequently been released from Hospital.

Several people have been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.

The IOM Constabulary would like to stress that this was an incident involving persons who knew each other and that members of the public are not at risk.

Police are particularly keen to identify any other members of the public who have not already come forward who may have witnessed or heard this incident, or any person who may have any information to assist with their investigation.

Police would also like to thank the public for their patience during their investigations at the weekend.

Imagine the amount of nonsense that would have been prevented if the cops had just said this three days ago.

Search and Rescue....multiple road closures....cordons...

Maybe it is because the Home Affairs Minister's ladyfriend lives down there and the police had to go OTT and then some.

Have to justify the budget - it needs to be spent - it is where it is, going forward, in real terms.

that they were detained there and then, “just in case” it WAS a murder,

If any or all of those arrested (?) were involved in a murder, do you think they would be hanging around the scene???

So it’s a stabbing which everyone knew anyway. Police must have got the green light from Big Howard for the say so. Don’t want the rest of the world knowing there is a knife crime problem. Just need now to come out and say we’ve got a heroin problem too.

It’d be like an AA meeting, hello we’re the Isle of Man and we have a knife and heroin problem.

Does 1 stabbing mean the whole society has a knife crime problem?

Not the number of stabbings but the extent that young people are carrying them. Saw one the other month whilst washing his car replace a 10inch blade back into the side door of his car. As a good ole snitch when I want to be I happened upon an off duty plod not long after and told them.

Errrm....yeah, if they were pissed, full of bravado, passed out, full of remorse, shocked, whatever? Is there such a thing as your average murderer? I don’t think they all go running off to catch the first flight to Brazil...
