Geocaching

Recommended Posts

Does anybody on here ever go geocaching, and if so, any good trails or walks that you would recommend?

Many thanks

I don’t do it but I’m told there is indeed a scutch of geocaches on the Island.

Download the geocache app. Tells you where they all are. Work out a relevant walk from there. Simples.

I do have the app and can see where they all are, I was wondering more so if anybody has any trails that they particularly enjoyed, with good hides along the way!

Some of the hides are very "same old, same old" whilst many are quite clever!

I’ve done the old railway line starting from Glen Mooar, KM to Peel, plenty of caches on the way plus a fantastic walk. Take wellies this time of year gets a bit messy. Finish in Peel with some pub grub. Great day out. I did it with a friend using 2 cars leaving one in Peel.

Another, is to pick any plantation, and collect the caches around there.

Rushen mines with Arrasey plantation.

another great loop, but a day walk is from Ravensdale Hotel in ballaugh through Druidale plantation over the tops and down through tholt y will plantation and reservoir, over corrody down through/or high ground through Sulby valley back to the Ginger Hall for grub. Lots of caches on that one.

Hope these help.

If you want a really frustrating one try the plantation at the Braaid.  There is one that will drive you nuts!

Old railway line from Union mills to St. John’s. Should clear about 20 on that one.

As well as the official geocaching website there is also the group, Manx Geocaching, based on the Island who arrange regular events, and even the first "Manxcachefest" planned for 2015.

Well updated.
