New Engine for the Gravy Train!

Recommended Posts

According to IOMtoday the gravy train is about to get a new engine because Ian Longworth 'wants to bring a unique locomotive back into service'. No mention of costs for this latest pie in the sky project for the DOI, but it does mention they already have five locomotives in service.

Steam railway passenger numbers were down 7% last year - so what's the argument for another engine?

What’s your gripe with it?

As an Island, we are spending a massive amount of money on heritage railways - millions and millions every year. The railways already have a load of steam locomotives - why does DOI need to spend even more money on another one? I could understand it if there were millions of people a year using the steam train, but there isn't.

DOI/Transport of supposed to be saving £1million a year (supposedly the reason for charging school kids more to use the bus) yet they will find the money to make this happen when it's completely unnecessary.

With Mr Longworth's penchant for spending money one can see the Douglas-Peel line being reinstated before long....followed by Peel-Ramsey.

Here's hoping. It'll be the first time he has spent money on something that will benefit somebody else other than him

This should be stopped in it's track (pardon the pun) enough money is being spent on heritage. I am informed that the DOI has got a budget of £800k to spend on the heritage trail from Peel to Union Mills, that money could be spent far more wisely in my opinion. I loved to walk from Douglas to Peel along the old line before they done all the unnecessary work. ffs do they not understand heritage, why don't we renovate Peel castle and bring it back to it's former glory after all it is heritage! We need to stop this needless spend, I hope treasury are keeping their eye on this misuse of taxpayer's money.
