Falling trees

An example of the type of thing that could happen, and no one wants to see something like this

Government employees can’t even inspect their own arseholes nevermind inspecting the tens of thousands trees around the island.

We're doing a version of that. Kill all the trees and in the process kill ourselves.

Few years ago I had just missed a big tree come down, I was just passing it as I heard a cracking sound like thunder and in my rear view mirror saw this massive tree come down a few car lengths behind me, I don't think i'll ever forget the sound and its something i'm very wary of every time its stormy weather.

I could be wrong but I think the gov do some monitoring.

Most trees are the responsibility of the landowner - usually private along most roads.

I know they’re currently considering appointing a contractor to deal with the significant increase in Ash die back.

I've personally been of the opinion that a great many roadside trees locally need to be pruned and cut back (not cut down).

Areas around the TT course (and elsewhere) are like tunnels now when trees are in full leaf. Trouble is, it's been let go for so long now that it would be a massive undertaking to clear it all and DOI are without the manpower or the interest, apparently.

I am told that DEFA are aware however, but are unwilling to carry out the necessary formal surveys as that puts them in the liability/firing line. So we'll just leave it as it is. Until there's a related incident at which point the denials and hand-wringing will start.

As per a post above, it’s the responsibility of the landowner, not the government. The landowner is the one whom you’d have to take civil action against if a tree damaged your property, same as if slates etc blew off a roof. If the DOI chain saw gangs get involved prior to trees actually falling (which I think they do already?) I’d hazard a guess that they have to consult the landowner beforehand to get permission?

It sounds likes a job for Chris Thomas, Minister of Policy and Reform - he’s good at writing reports - not much use at anything else sadly.

Well tell the landowner who we pay to keep fields in fallow, streams and brooks clear, and hedges and verges trimmed to bloody well do their job. If not take the country side allowance of them. But we all know Dandara call the shots on that one.
