Bit later on I think. The worst thing they could do is have someone on seeing in the new year who dies, Amy Winehouse style, before the real date. If they record mid-December, which I think they do, statistically that’s less likely.

They don't even need to die... "On the show this year we have current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson"

Have they scrapped Halloween and bonfire night then ?

Boris has to write to the EU to cancel the former, but is planning on reenacting the original bonfire night to it's intended conclusion.

It's just about buying "stuff". Mainly stuff from China much of which could safely be foregone and not missed. Nothing else matters, apparently, because it all helps GDP. It's OK if you're young enough that cynicism hasn't caught up with you yet.

It must be difficult being so easily offended. Good luck in the coming months!

It doesn't offend me, it just irritates me.

That's Just the same as I feel!

That's right. It is more irritating than offensive. It's the disingenuity of it all. I'm sure that nothing good can come from pushing a society to become more and more addicted to conspicuous consumption. So much of it largely pointless, on impulse and often on "credit". No doubt Karl Marx would have had an interesting take on it.

That's Just fine, though.

Oh, sorry. I took it at face value. Now I'm not sure Just what you're driving at.
