The Manx Radio interview is classic Howard Quayle in managing to make even giving out money to the needy look bad.  It's also noticeable just how slow they have been about this 'emergency' - the flood

To be fair though, what's the point in voting? However the vote, whoever wins, the government is back the next day.  There was a large turnover of mhks at the last election and people were saying

Manx Radio was oddly studio-bound during Tuesday's flooding - their way of reacting to the floods in Laxey was to send Dollin Mercer - down to the Tromode River.  Now that the Chief Minister has retur

I suspect this actually will come as news to Perkins.

Trees down on Captain's Hill too. More evidence of the massive amount of roadside tree-limbing and pruning work that's built up and outstanding across the Island?

Laxey as well as other glens and areas of woodlands have as everyone knows been neglected for years. Speaking to someone relatively high up in the department, maintenance was a dirty word with the senior management preferring new capital projects. I think the penny has finally dropped, albeit too late in Laxey’s case and work is starting to be undertaken to resolve historic failings. Drainage, river walls and tree pruning are going to come at a high cost over the next decade all because of cost ‘saving’ on maintenance during the supposed austerity years. Just wait until Ash die back takes hold properly. Tree surgeons are going to be doing very well, as Ash trees are everywhere. At least Baker lives in a glen so he has seen the issues at first hand.

I see Perkins is saying how bad the flooding  is in Laxey. Duh!

Wonder why he doesn't understand that he's there to do something about it, not just comment.

Pretty Polly Perkins has started his 2021 election campaign early, hasn't he?  The man's a waste of space.

Someone could do with taking a look at the hugely expensive ‘flood defence’ river access gate installed only a couple of months ago. Already the planks of wood have warped and some have gaps appearing of way over a centimetre. Let’s hope the water doesn’t rise.

Trees in the river bank are being chopped back but the MUA only has responsibility for nine metres back from the river. The huge, some dead, sycamores and ash are not able to be felled because of the age old question that no one knows who owns the land where they grow.

The day after the flood Dr Allinson gave his word that they would be gone. They’re not and they are not going to be.

The trees felled this week have been chainsawed into metre lengths and just left on the banks as for now, they have no way of removing them.

The old river wall on the opposite side of the river lost about a metre of bed rock and rubble from underneath during the flood and there’s a plan in place to replace parts of it but a survey has to take place to see if it’s safe for work personnel to get underneath it to repair it. Meanwhile, hundreds of tons of unmanaged trees sit on top of it, plus the tons of trees felled this week.

It’ll be right.

Until it isn’t.

Any middle aged man who still wears bomber jackets should be actively avoided. He reminds me of a mid 1980s Denis Waterman.
