I was going to reply that there are still idiots that don’t like that sculpture. But I see dilli’s made that point for me.

Strange but true there are still idiots who don't realise that art is subjective...

I agree with Slinkydevil.  There is a peculiar thing on this Island where almost any form of public art is accepted as a good thing.   I do not see how this is an improvement at all.  Yes, it is

If rearranging the stones into an enormous three legs doesn't need planning, presumably rearranging them into an enormous penis wouldn't either.  And much more in the spirit of hillside land art.

I'd prefer to see this on Douglas Head hillside facing Tynwald.

The airport sculpture isn't kneeling, it's springing from a crouched position to defend the Island.

I'm sure it's entitled "The Kneeling Manxman"? That was what sparked all the furore when it was erected, including, "Manxmen kneel to nobody"!

Unless they're visiting from HMRC. Or bringing gongs.

That airport scrap heap is an insult to Manx people. It should have not been erected.

Well there’s personal preference at work Dilli because I think it’s superb.

Maybe its just a play on the sculptors name. Nice guy, Mr Kneale.

I'm pretty sure it's called 'The legs of man'.

The original Hyacinth Bucket, even before Pam Crowe.

Bang on description Mr. W. Not my favourite past Tynwald member.

I don't think you are correct there. Any evidence?

Only a 1979ish memory of the kerfuffle that kicked off about it. I might have a skeet in the newspapers up the museum.

The airport triskelion is the only example of modern art on the island that I find agreeable.

Pam Crowe, whatever happened to her? I remember her as head of the OFT carrying out yet another "investigation" into the pricing of gas on the Island and stating on MR that, "MG had been quite shocked at the powers of investigation that the OFT had"...

Yeah, so shocked they carried on taking the piss with their prices for another 20-odd years afterwards.

The fuss was generated primarily by Betty Hanson MHK who was (a) an idiot and (b) pissed off by being upstaged by that superb sculpture, as she ceaselessly told everyone that she was the brains behind Millennium Year.

She was a retired school teacher - and behaved like one 24/7 - MHK for West Douglas. Awful woman.
