Oh god. What is it with this Island?  This is along the same sort of lines as public art in my opinion.
Could it not go in Union Mills where they were born, as there is no public art and are no statues there

They were Not born in Union Mills. Mum and Dad bought the shop / post office there and Andy worked in it.

Strange thing to be wondering about...

Not really. It's something the artist will have to address if the stupid idea goes ahead.

Or perhaps it will be like the giant headed Laxey miner statue.

Statues are so pointless and weird. What are they even for?

Agree about that hideous miner with the massive head.

If his head was that big, his brain would have told him not to go down the fucking mine.

The Bee Gees statue is one of the most dopey ideas yet. What a total waste of money.

There should be statue to dopey ideas or an annual award or something.

Some Tynpotwalder probably saw the cruise liner crowd flocking to the Fab Four on the quayside and Cilla by the Cavern Club and thought "Gis a job. We can do that. And in one blow that would make Douglas a major rival to the paltry offerings of Liverpool...." and not only thought it but managed to sell it on to the gullible!

What a truly crap idea.

Well at least The Bee Gees were born here, unlike Norman Wisdom or George Formby.

The statues of them are weird and pointless too. And ask yourself this: What is anyone actually going to do with this expensive statue of the Bee Gees? And therefore what is the point of it? Why not just Google some pictures of them or watch a video on YouTube if you want to be reminded what they looked like?
