Huge IOMG pension contribution short fall

Recommended Posts

Anyone who has to fund the CSPS pension requirement AND climate change response off the back of the average Manx taxpayer has to have at least some acquaintance with the principles of double entry bookkeeping

Imagine young Mr Cannan is mugging up right now

Chris Thomas has been busy assuring concerned contributors to the comments section on the Pensions article on iomtoday that all with the PS Pensions deficit is ok and that any concerns are unfounded. Indeed, apparently the rapidly depleting PS Pension Reserve has never actually existed as a separate entity, it's always been funded by general revenue.

So that's all good to know, there'll be no change when it's all gone then? Current standings are stated as being £117M PSPR and £1.7Bn reserves.

Two new interesting posts advertised this morning ...

https://www.jobtrain.co.uk//iomgovjobs/DisplayJob.aspx?JobId=10942

existing incumbent moving on after 3 years

https://www.jobtrain.co.uk//iomgovjobs/DisplayJob.aspx?JobId=10849

Limited term 12 month internal only appointment

Unbelievable ! Should be a job freeze to save money except essential front line roles in health & education

Not surprising really as over the Covid period the current incumbent proved themselves to be completely useless at running a communications strategy.

"Flex time" and time tailored "to operational needs". Maybe they need to talk to the Airport as well then?

They do indeed. Linked to DEFA from what I'm led to believe and already flexing its muscles in respect of making the use of Govt land for some local motor sport events difficult.

ETA. Although I note from 3FM News that DEFA's enthusiasm for the internal combustion engine does extend to a new proposal to fell trees in order to create a 100-car carpark at the Island's most visited plantation, Archallagan.

Personally, I think the money would be better spent on some plantation maintenance and tidying at other venues on the Island.

God knows but they should be busy in the next few years I'd say !! That will mean another advert for increased staff because cant have the little love's having to work to hard . I believe communications has a staff of 9 and still nobody jumped on board about the airport mess last week and now straight away they advertise for another communications staff member .

They need creative people to write stuff as - bizarrely for elected politicians - they have few ideas of their own

This is one of the key characteristics of our political system, & it's a ******* embarrassment

We just have to look at the manifestos so far posted by candidates in the South Douglas by-election

Interesting question asked, obviously someone has been getting promoted without posts being advertised or required

5. The Hon. Member for Douglas East (Mrs Barber) to ask the Chief Minister –
Which Government departments have a Deputy Chief Executive role(s); when each role was advertised and whether this was internally, externally or both; and what salary uplifts were applied in comparison to the previous posts?
