Coming to a hospital near you!

I understand that the company involved in the above matters, is coming to a hospital mear us. I hope 'lessons have been learnt' and there won't be a rerun of such incidents here!

I've just heard that a certain Knight of the Realm (initials J.M) has a strong and longstanding association with this company. This is only a rumour at the moment

Some good people on that side too. The problem as I see it, is it has grown like topsy, and is a bit of an unwieldy beast at present.

In a sense they do..  Even the best doctors and other medical staff will make mistakes sometimes and there have to ways of dealing with these and genuinely learning from them.  Other staff will make systematic mistakes and will need extra training or maybe reassignment to more suitable roles.  But there will also a small minority of such staff who will refuse to admit responsibility  for or learn from their mistakes and attack anyone who criticises them, no matter in how constructive a way.  It's an important part of running a health service and especially a hospital, to have systems to diagnose which of these situations is happening and deal with them in the appropriate manner.

The trouble is that the instinctive reaction to any complaints or criticism in the Manx civil service is to deny that any fault could possibly take place and attempt to ignore and obstruct any criticism or complaints, putting up legal resistance and dragging things out for as long as possible.   Anyone who dares question corporate infallibility is treated as if they have malignant motives and not to be trusted.  Couple this with a tendency to appease bullies within the system, rather than standing up to them (something we see elsewhere in Government), and poor administration not only allows medical mistakes to go uncorrected, but encourages them to be repeated.

I wonder if  Mr Callister will use the same words on David Ashford overspend, somebody needs too.

Obviously in Politics you can't hold grudges, so looking forward to his participation in the health overspend debate.
