yootalkin2me
What with the uncertainty of Flybe why doesnt the Isle of Man Government just buy an aeroplane to use purely for patient transfers, it doesn't necessarily have to be a large plane, maybe a 40 seater or somewhere around that mark. If no to buying one then perhaps charger one for a year, see how that pans out and if it would appear to be better to just keep the charter going then do that but if it is cheaper and easier to just buy one outright then do that. Manxberry
The Isle of Man government should not be put in charge of running an airline. But they subsidise Flybe to the tune of about £4 million every year with the patient transfer contract, of all the routes that FlyBe may chop - that one will stay. If Flybe go bust, easyJet or Stobart will pick it up. It's not difficult

Manxberry
We pay over £120 a sector. That is not a reasonable commercial rate.

If Flybe go bust, easyJet or Stobart will pick it up. It's not difficult EasyJet really aren’t interested. Turn around times are too tight. They don’t want PRM lift on or off slowing them down. Plus, unless they station a plane and crew here, very expensive for them, early morning flights are a no go. EZY depends on intensive use of the aircraft and high load factors. A plane here, departing at 7.00 and getting back for overnight by 21.00 loses 2 sectors a day

Manxberry
That's gone up since I last checked. Yeah, that's even more ludicrous

Yeah, that's even more ludicrous The tickets are changeable and transferable ( but not refundable ) and include bags if needed. For some flights that’s less than the full rate. For others it’s much, much more.

Yeah, that's even more ludicrous No. It's a rate that makes it attractive to operate the service. So long as there are patients to be moved to the UK it's guaranteed fixed income. No discounts. Anything above that is bunce.

Manxberry
An absolutely absurd rate, far above and beyond what should be paid. Another example of wanton spunkage of NHS cash because it's infinite.
