After a vaccine has been developed, or you can prove you are otherwise immune (recovered) and not able to carry it. Likely Easter 2021 earliest for the vast majority IMO, on the assumption a vaccine is started to be rolled out from January 2021, but that's a big assumption.

Quarantine will have to be part of any plan until then for any urgent trips that require a return to the island, and preferably designated quarantine as there are too many idiots that would take too many risks in the community otherwise i.e risking the health of others to return to work too early. Having to gain permission to travel will likely last till then too.

It really depends on the UK case numbers - it would make no sense to get the virus under control here while it's still endemic in the UK to then let borders open without some form of quarantine on entry.

They'll be able to lower the quarantine to a week soon enough, test on arrival, test a week later. 

The UK is going to be massively fucked for a very long time, decent future travel options might well be via Ireland.

that deals with UK residents, now what about other people from outside the UK that for the most part have to pass through the UK to get here ?

The trouble with Ireland is the Northern bit, which as part of the UK is not being restricted in travel between there and Great Britain, as far as I know.  And as their border, despite Brexit, is totally porous in quarantine terms allowing people here from Ireland but not UK is a bit like declaring a no-pissing area in a swimming pool.

@WTF - you've answered your own question there.  As they have to pass through the UK it depends on the UK, unless they could arrange a clean transit zone in an airport to allow travel to the IOM from other 'clean' jurisdictions.  But that is not going to happen.

The two camps. Not that there should be a debate. Government should just take the evidence based approach they said they would in their strategy.

Exactly my point this period stats are irrelevant. As for evidence based decision, it is more nuanced than that, especially in the Manx psyche.

There's no way the Manx public will accept being locked in until 2021 and if howie try's that there will be major protests.

I think you’re thinking far too far ahead of yourself there Golfer. There’s a plan, all being well it will move forward. If things fuck up it will go backwards. There may be many backwards and forwards before a true forward occurs. It may be a year, it may be three years, it may never open. No-one knows. We all living through a virtual experiment. Even the ones that will know don’t know. 

Put it out of your mind. Control what you can control and leave the rest. It’ll save you disappearing down the eighteenth hole.

Yes, well a lot of people will be missing out on all the drama of course and they’ve been thriving on that for years so it’s possible that may happen.
