Hopefully he did self isolate as per instructions, along with all the other passengers who arrived with him! Some hope I'm afraid.

Do those passengers even know yet? did they all immediately self isolate or did they go stock up on food first?

We could never hope to keep it out completely and even if by some miracle we did it would be no panacea because as soon as the restrictions were lifted there would be no immunity among the population, and they would be going down en masse then anyway.

True but I'm not sure the herd immunity thing will work anyway as it mutates. It hasn't worked for colds and flu's.

I knew we'd get it for the simple reason people are still going on holiday in the middle of a pandemic.

We can look forward to sacrificing our elderly and immune compromised family members because morons weren't willing to give up there skiing trips or beach rat holidays for a few months.

Yes herd immunity works. USA are looking for recovered volunteers to donate their blood containing the antibodies. This blood can then be given to really ill patients to speed up recovery.

China were doing that a while back too, I'm not sure how successful it was as they went quiet on the subject. It has mutated since then.

I'm not from the island, considering how small the place is, it would be trouble for the smaller places.

Could the health service cope with anything major on the island?

Where can I get this virus? Bored of hearing about it now. Want to catch it, have a week in bed and then carry on with my life.

You could apply that to anywhere, can anyone cope with it? - Italy doesn't appear able to. The Shetland Isles has 24 cases - https://www.shetnews.co.uk/2020/03/19/number-of-coronavirus-cases-continues-to-rise/ The Faroe Islands had over 70 cases last I heard.

Historically if you are interested here's what happened with other diseases on the island (Cholera, Smallpox etc.) -

The only reference to Spanish Flu on the island I can find is the internment camp - http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/history/intrn_ww1/douglas/v1918.htm

 - Which is a bit weird as it killed like 228,000 in the UK.

China, Italy, the World etc. - Have you seen what it does to some people's lungs?

All names of people on flights/sailings last two days, and from now on need to be published, surely.

(A bloke down our road has been away a week or two, came back yesterday but managed to get out and about to do some stocking up at the supermarket).

That'd show they haven't actually checked the names/addresses of people getting off the aircraft or ferry ;)

Better than say the Faroe islands as we've got better access to UK hospitals, but worse than many other places. If you aren't from here it's probably best to flee the island and sell up

Flee where? - The only places near that I know of that don't have the virus (last I checked) was the Western Isles and the Orkneys and they seem like they will be in a worse position than us when it gets there - https://www.stornowaygazette.co.uk/health/nhs-western-isles-press-conference-highlights-plans-to-battle-coronavirus-in-the-islands-1-5105717

Even places like Iceland and Greenland have the virus. At the moment where are these many other places we are worse than?

I don't think the guy you are replying to lives here.
