IOM Services Directory

Recommended Posts

In these every changing times, is anyone aware of a IOM central services directory where the details of who and what is open, when and to whom, available online?

For example, while the Island's stores have made certain hours available to NHS staff/ elderly people, each company has, understandably, different times and on different days. One location where you could see all the information in one place would reduce wasted trips and unnecessary contacts?

I appreciate that this would need initially require some effort to be set up, and while potentially prone to pranksters, one would hope that most people would be responsible and allow our local providers to appeal to a wider audience. It may even reduce those who feel the need to panic buy.

Wouldn't you expect the nation's station to provide that sort of information, as the 'public service broadcaster'? Nah..... just keep pumping out the usual drivel as if nothing's changed.

Thanks DragonS - it is that type of thing but a bit more structured, and as part of the general information that is made available in these difficult times alongside other pertinent information, rather than having to dig around on a particular radio site - no disrespect to Manx Radio.

Personally, I would have thought IoMG with its vast IT GTS service, and with so many of its staff working from home, would have done something as a public service but maybe I am stretching my expectations.

There seems to be quite a lot on there, though the format (which is really designed for one-off events) may make it difficult to follow.  Here's Shoprite's entry for example:

Shoprite will be open for Senior Citizens, hopefully offering a less stressful shopping experience at the following stores:

Little Switzerland, Douglas
Bridson Street, Port Erin
Bowring Road, Ramsey
Derby Road, Peel
The Village Walk, Onchan

Days and hours as follows:
Saturday: 8am - 9am
Tuesday: 8am - 9am
Thursday: 8am - 9am

I suppose these times are most convenient for the stores and they will be taking place when the stores should be cleanest, but you wonder if a later slot would be better for older people (especially if travelling by public transport) and the earlier one could be used by health workers or something.

Point taken. However, it would be useful if the data was presented in the way that Roger suggests and perhaps made available on the landing page?

I agree that it is not easy to navigate the data and that a more presentable format would be helpful. I found it by accident so perhaps a higher profile to the public would also be useful and as you say highlighted on the home page.
