But we already have PCR testing, and the capacity of the lab hasn't been an issue so far, so perhaps they do!

Yes, but Dr Glover has explained that her process makes sure that the right genetic material is tested and reduces the false negatives.  The capacity of the lab may not be an issue now, but surely we are going to have to ramp up testing as we trace and (should?) take second tests to verify a negative?

OK. For what it's worth I'm going to try and explain why genomics is important in a ssRNA virus epidemic. No doubt it will end up being recited badly at a briefing, but, well, whatever. You read it he

So, if they are accommodated in holiday cottages how are they monitored to ensure that they comply with the restriction requirements? Seems worryingly lax to me!

They get random checks the same as anyone else isolating, assume they get food delivered, stocked up before arrival, takeaways delivered etc etc

It is possible that they were in day 1,7 or 13 tests  - if three people tested positive on day one fourteen days ago, they will have dropped off the active cases list today to be replaced by the three new positives - in effect cancelling each other out.

The government figures issued (on Twitter) fourteen days ago did show three new cases -  I don't know if they were day one isolation or not.

Totally agree that we should be told exactly what type of new case we have to save all this detective work!

No because the active cases went from 27 yesterday to 30 today which matches with the number of new cases of 3.  So there can't be any that have 'dropped off'.

Which of course gives rise to the question: where (and when) did the 3 of 30 December go?

Checked by whom??? Sounds an ideal opportunity for the spread of the virus. But, a good business opportunity for holiday cottage owners. Depends which is more important.
