100% agree @ian rush. Apart from - we are part of a Sterling zone which absolutely can print money. The practical logistics of getting that liquidity into our hyper local bit of the British economy is clearly a technical issue. But we are part of an economy which basically can create liquidity (ie create elastic money).

An interesting point. This should be brought up in the VAT negotiations. The fact the the uk has printed money to pay their own workers to stay at home, and to pay grants to their businesses to pay rents, etc. Should not be paid by Iom, jersey, Guernsey, etc. (Banker will not get this).

Can you guys start a separate thread titled "Jersey is ace - oh no it isn't" and leave this one to a discussion on IOM and the coronavirus?

It's a safe place right now because of the Manx people, not the Manx politicians. None of us want to be "the person who brought it back" so we isolate and make sure we don't transmit the virus by bein

Ratio of admissions to deaths is not that different, testing is obviously out due to the massive capacity increase like just about everywhere in the world.    The current UK situation is impact

We can create money by running a deficit but it’s against the legislation so would require primary law changes. This is why we are borrowing instead which is basically same thing but idiots like cambon who are in marketing wouldn’t understand

Borrowing in our case requires repayment. In the case of the uk does not.. They can "inflate" their way out via either exchange rates or tarrifs, which we cannot do.  Simple economics.

What a load of bollocks, of course it needs repaying. They issue gilts which are no longer undated, inflation just reduces relative value over time.

stop trying to be smarter than you are !

I don't want the economy ruining. If we get it back and Howie locks us down again, the economy is finished. At the moment, our economy is ticking over nicely, as is Guernsey's. People are spending more money than normal locally.

I am in favour of testing on arrival - at the right time.

It does not matter how it is coping. It is how badly the virus spreads due to their voluntary quarantine system.
