You're in the UK though aren't you Richard? I think you are being weirdly dismissive of the situation in the Isle of Man. We're doing alright thanks, not perfect but alright. There may still be asymptomatic cases, but if so there aren't many.

We don't know for certain that we have never had any cases of Ebola in the IoM...

Ebola is spread through close and prolonged bodily contact, primarily through bodily fluids such as blood, semen, faeces, etc

We know for a fact that CV-19 has been/may still be on the Island.

Apples and oranges.

We shall see shall we?

Remember back in January when the forum luminaries Wooley and Maximus were telling us all it was just the flu and would be gone in a few weeks?

You have said what they are doing is wrong, and the right thing to is open the gates.

I am pretty certain I did not say that, certainly if I did it was in error as I do not presently believe that is the correct option. My view is that whilst the borders remain shut and provided we get no new cases in the next couple of weeks we should get rid of compulsory social distancing, rely on common sense and get the kids back to school and behaving as kids again. I would keep in border restrictions and also limit capacities in respect of venues which might be busy and have a high turnover of people. This thread is on schools and subject to no new cases in the next couple of weeks I think they should all go back, possibly with limited changes in secondary schools, e.g. you do not change sets from subject to subject and that as far as possible you stay in the same classroom and the teachers move around.

Richard - The reality is that the world cannot shut down indefinitely.   Most people realise this.  Governments definitely do.

I specifically care about the Isle of Man right now and the reality here (as much as it almost seems to disappoint some people) is that we have one case.

Even if everything was thrown open tomorrow it'll be a couple of months before we are back to normal volumes.   If you told pubs, restaurants and cafes they could open today it'll take a week or two for them to be ready.

Have all 80,00 (ish) people on the island been tested in the last 48 hours?

Because that is the crux of it, how confident are you that there isn't a large number of people asymptomatic infected on the island?

Very. In the last 3 weeks or more there have been no symptomatic covid patients here that have tested positive and definitely none admitted to hospital as all admissions are being tested.

If as you worry there were a ‘large number’ of asymptomatic infected people on island they would have generated at least one positive case in the past few weeks.

Strawman.  I have not said at any point that the world must shut down indefinitely.

I am saying "they" are removing restrictions too soon, which is going to cause more problems than it solves.

You know what a "second wave" is right?

Nothing is stopping you educating your children or is it that you want someone else to risk themselves to do it?

We pay our taxes to pay teachers to teach our children, its idiots like you who want us to go back to the dark ages!

Jealous of IOMG?  Think about that for little bit longer than it took you to type it.

I'm sorry, is keeping kids out of schools for a few more weeks going to reduce the country to the dark ages?

Now that is amusing to read.
