Douglas Corporation are twats, that's all there is to it. They don't deserve any help or sympathy. Move your businesses elsewhere everyone.

DBC seem to be pushing for their own extinction. Long time overdue all these authorities were merged.

Only on the Isle of Man, population-wise a dispersed village would you get a Department leasing car parks to a sub department for the sum of £1.3m.  Its tantamount to money laundering.

I wouldn’t expect that to happen as the perception is that our sole reason for existing is to pick up the tab. They have already said that ratepayers will be expected to pay their rates regardless (whether they can afford to or not is entirely another matter). They signed a commercial agreement. Just like any other party to a commercial agreement if the other party won’t budge then that’s tough as you signed the deal. But using this as an excuse to not continue free parking is poor. Personally I will be boycotting all paid parking in town. I would rather cycle in now even if it’s lashing down than pay those greedy sods a penny when they won’t let another else off a penny owed themselves. You get the impression that Christian and the others are like King Canute and the tide is already 20ft over their heads.

They're not even playing it particularly well politically.  In their position I'd be doing much more to put the DoI on the spot (especially given the damage to the Town by the endless Prom fiasco).  Instead they only mention it in passing and clearly most people don't realise the main financial responsibility lies with IOMG.

They ought to be making very public offers about a regeneration package (including things like rates) and getting people and businesses to pressure MHKs etc.  Instead it's just like they're happy to find an excuse to do nothing and that's it.

Well as I keep on pointing out, they're already by far the biggest local authority on the Island, but they're not exactly a model of efficiency or democratic accountability, so there's nothing to say that making them bigger would make them any better.  And if you got rid of them the DoI would take over and they're the only body in the Island (and possibly the universe) who can make the Corpy look good.  DBC needs to be reformed internally  before it is given anything extra to play with.

Merged doesn't necessarily mean making DBC bigger. Abolished first IMO...and a completely new structure created, alongside IOM Govt reform.

There are more managers and support managers, assistants to managers , office workers, assistants to office workers. Over one hundred personal in the Town Hall alone. and about 85 workers on the front line actually producing/providing a service you actually need
