HeliX 2,266
Thought it might be interesting to do another one of these. https://8values.github.io/ My results will surprise no-one, obviously.

VinnieK 1,434
Mine surprised me, though I think that's because the questions weren't very nuanced: just because I believe all people should be treated equally, that doesn't mean I think all people should be treated well. Far from it.

Far from it. If you think they should be treated equally but not well does that mean you think all people should be treated poorly?
VinnieK 1,434
Just now, HeliX said: If you think they should be treated equally but not well does that mean you think all people should be treated poorly? Yes, but equally poorly. I don't care who gets used as ballast in my personal yacht, or whose children work 20 hour shifts in my commemorative plate factories, just as long as the job gets done.

You'd like to provide everyone with an adequate supply of sandwiches and, what's more, you're not going to hassle them if they ask for wotsits and marshmallows as a filling. That's an election winning manifesto promise right there, just in case you were thinking of standing. Edited June 24, 2020 by VinnieK 1

Only way I'd ever stand was if I could take the Stalin approach and start fucking shooting people.

I missed out the 'shooting' when I first read that, which led me to think it was reference to a very strange instance of a 'Confessions of a. . .' sex-comedy. You never know though. Start small on the backbenches and work your way into a position where you have a reasonable chance of getting the 'teapot's going to fucking-well shoot you act' passed.

Chinahand 3,284
Sadly the original link doesn't work for me ... it might be being blocked due to work so I'll try later on my personal computer. This seemed an appropriate thread to post this image which popped up in my Twitter feed recently: My daoist side comes out when looking at things like this - what is the natural order of things? If you have to structurally distort things to enforce an ideal of equality - say gender quotas for engineering or dietician jobs this can be against justice. The image assumes the tree has been returned to its correct position ... but governments and entrenched interests are just as good at forcing them to fit their particular ideology. I'm not entirely against affirmative action, but am very aware caution is needed. It ain't as simple as it looks. Thoughts?
