5 years is too long. And there needs to be an easier way to turf out an under performing politician.

With online voting the hassle/cost  excuse is lessened. Increasing the penalty for election fraud should sort out the main opposition to online voting, and postal vote should always be available option.

Incidentally, the 'potential' for election fraud is greater by those running the current and antiquated polling station than anything Buster dreamed up.

Sorry , but Buster was king of the election fraud.

Sad really, as there was a nice person inside that crooked shell

Ok as you clearly are actually a knob, let me answer in terms that your clearly inhibited intellect can process. Some illustrations of the kind of people who should stand for the Keys are: 1

His idiotic support for ending the free movement of people in europe will have cost him. And deservedly so. Fucking brexiteers can all fuck off.

Josem is totally wrong regarding shorter terms.   Over the next 12 months diddly squat will be achieved because not one of the current MHKs will touch anything even faintly controversial in case it loses them votes if the term was shorter it would be even worse.

Yeah, I was surprised by his almost complete lack of presence on the Internet.

It’s not surprising as afterall he is proper mental and so will be wanting to try to restrict the number of people who might work that out.

Surely the king of election fraud would be one that actually won the election they tried to rig.

The only real solution to a lack of accountability in democracy is for:

  • the populace to take a more active interest and to participate more in politics;
  • there to be a strong, responsible, and diverse media helping to keep people informed.

Two of the big problems with these kinds of discussion is that they focus too much on trying to find structural solutions for issues that are essentially cultural, which often amounts to hammering a square peg into a round hole, and they tend to ignore that a functioning democracy also places certain obligations on the public to do their part.

Some of the reason is also historical. The gaps between the public and politics is largely managed to keep them there. For example - too many "private" sessions after the public sessions in local Commissioners and Council meetings, Gov Department  'Board' meetings kept away from public gaze. seating arrangements in Tynwald to allow the public to watch open-mouthed in wonder at the wisdom, pomp and ceremony of our betters and so on. People are restricted to limited information so they cannot ask awkward questions. Secrecy has replaced confidentiality because it reduces accountability.

Wonder if it was the first time buster tried it?

I'm surprised that previous elections weren't looked into but I suppose the police were told "don't even go there".

The fraud was brought to light before the election, otherwise he would probably have been successful, although I think the celebrity cook could have walked in on his own merits.

Anyway, we ended up getting Robertshaw, and there are people in Douglas East who feel they were as good as defrauded by giving him their vote, but that is another matter.

Josem has been invited to share his views on the health services and the impacts on staff regarding Manx Care which seem to be at odds with his leader. Maybe this is probably why.

C'mon then, let's see who among the great and the good of MF is king or queen of the  psephologists; predict the number of votes cast for every candidate. Not only are comedy answers permitted, they are actively encouraged. Although any answer relating to Fowler is a comedy answer.
