Isle of Man Newspapers website

They've always been good for a laugh. I remember Vic Feather, over for the T&G conference, being presented with a silver rose bowel. There  was Fenella's tribute to Donald Slee, where she asserted that he was ' for many years the backbone of the Christmas reindeer'. Then there were all Lionel's headlines with a question mark: UFO's Over Laxey?, etc

Well, in that case, they're only saying what we're all constantly thinking about each other, so fair play.

I get two pop ups, and then the same for every page visited after that. Something is a bit shit, and I just avoid IoM Newspapers websites.

They should just rename the site IOMacoupleofdaysago.co.im

"Lying drunk on pavement costs 61-year-old man dear"

Did he trip over the intoxicated fibber? You'd think by the time he reached that age he'd know that lying drunks are best avoided.

The internet has wrecked the business model of the media. Now they're reduced to pay per click advertising and low-grade filler to give the illusion of relevance.

While the current crew fall below the UK standard for spelling and grammar, it's not their laziness that sets them apart so much as their contempt for their readership.

A perfect illustration was supplied by one of the pages on their website advertising that particular week's Examiner. No doubt wise to the fact that readers were zooming in to the photo and reading the news "for free", they decided to replace the story with dummy text. Thinking that the effort of translation would be beyond the Manx yokel, their dummy text said, "People who comment on our articles are stupid and don't deserve to have a voice."

Of course they offered a comments section, which was terribly clever of them.

I have noticed that they've been less critical of government since the pandemic. One has to wonder how much government money they needed to stay afloat during the lock-down when their advertisers disappeared. FOI request anybody?

Last week one of the “journalists” even spelled their own name wrong at the top of the story!

Didn't it actually say "People who post on internet sites are stupid, and shouldn’t be allowed to vote"?

Observation over the years does indeed reveal a considerable number of MF posters who would choose Not To Vote, even if they were not disenfranchised by IOM News! Or choose 'None of the above', ( for what that is worth), in our SDlas poll!

Why anyone should post political comment on here and then say that they are not going to vote is beyond me.

The quote from IOM News is rather 'Spelleresque'?

The newspaper has lost a lot of staff in the last few years. They are trying to produce three papers a week with very limited resources.
It must be likely that this will drop down to two at some point unless they can get more funding .

That’s no excuse for not proof reading stuff before it goes online.
