Quirkio wont be returning for his benefit. It will be because constituents keep on stopping him in the street and begging him to come back and sort the place out.

Give it a rest FFS.

He is a bit loose with his words, like Liverpool back four with the ball.

OKAY. Other than Graham Cregeen, Ray Harmer, Laurence Skelly, and Geoffrey Boot, his choices have been acceptable.

And kept them in place.

The extraordinary thing about Quayle's choice of ministers is that he made no choices at all.  Everyone was appointed on grounds of seniority with all the survivors from the previous Keys being appointed except for Watterson (who was already appointed Speaker), Robertshaw (who made it known he would be refusing all such posts) and Peake (who also seems to have refused).

There’s several elements to the lack of woman in COMIN this term, not all are down to Quayle.

1. the number of woman in the Keys (and in 2016 the Legco) is very low.

2. In 2016 he would have had to appoint a newbie to increase the female count.

3. I think you have to look at the Bell years when no women received a ministerial post, and I think didn’t receive many departmental posts. Teare as Treasurer was awfully condescending to women members. You also had the Houghton incident which cast a bad light (whether you took his side or not) on how female staff were treated in Tynwald. You can’t blame women from not putting themselves forward for that toxic environment - most of us have chosen not to.

4. the voters in 2011 didn’t help - Lynyrd Skynyrd or whatever his name was over Annie Craine is still perplexing.   Meaning by 2016  the only experienced woman was Beecroft.

None of that is really Quayle’s fault. And he seems to have been supportive of bringing in more women into Legco. Although that has a danger of creating a situation when men do stuff as ministers and department members and women scrutinise in Legco.

But

1. he’s had three opportunities to promote to fill vacancies and appointed men.

2. he’s two ministers - Skelly and Hamer who’s handling of their department has been Graylingesque and have lost public confidence.

3. two ministers - Cregeen and Boot that never had public confidence in the first place.

4.  I accept Ashcroft and Allison have improved COMIN but Baker?

I find it hard to believe not one of the women MHKs can be trusted ahead of  Creegen, Harmer, Boot, Skelly or Baker.

Not for the first time in Onchan politics it's one of those battle where both sides deserve to lose and no one has the faintest idea what they are talking about.  Quirk's bizarre interview with Moulton seems mainly to be complaining about about not being given a voters' list back in March for the election that didn't take place in any case.  He doesn't say if he was refused one this time (he shouldn't have been).  Rather than  politely pointing this out the Commissioners then went all pompous and belligerent (as they usually do)  and spent their meeting denouncing Quirk for daring to suggest they could ever be wrong about anything.

Really they deserve each other.

Allen won't want Quirky in because he won't be able to use his bully boy tactics on him. The sooner Allen is ousted the better

Onchan politics is a bit like watching a load of tramps slug it out to see who wins the dying fag end.

Is that because the rest of the island is a glowing testimony as to how to run things...

Rogers comments were specifically about Onchan and Quirky. Which is what I responded to.

Fair comment, I'm just pointing out that the rest of the Island fares no better. Castletown/Douglas/Port St Mary/Braddan. its about time the whole feckin lot of them were removed

Oh I’m still laughing so much at this. He’s now going to have to fight off the worlds most surplus to requirements civil servant. It’s turning into a real rumble in the jungle.

We have something of a glut on the surplus to requirements bit....obviously one still feels the need to try and justify his existence even though he reached the Golden Nugget...
