Ronaldsway Airport - 747 landing

Don't think there'll be many 747s left in service soon, they're all being retired on the grounds of being less fuel-economical than the new generations of wide body, two engined jets. BA have retired all theirs, 'twas on news a couple of weeks ago. Even questions on the same grounds, of those relatively new, colossal A380s.

Let alone the fact that there's currently bugger-all passengers...

Our government will probably buy them...

Anyone else remember the 757 that was brought in to do a direct charter flight to the Balearic island's? Pre runway extension?

They had to remove all the seats before it was able to depart again unless I dream it!

What is the differnce between a 747 and a 757 ?

Which way ?

757 is similar to what Easyjet fly to the island, slightly bigger though. Still two engines and six seats wide. 200 passengers.

747 is a big old thing with an upstairs, 4 engines and a big hump at the front, for the upstairs section. Hundreds of seats more.  400-600 depending on whether they have beds in first class etc. Air Force One is a 747

You can on Flight Sim X 😎

It's possible to take off again, but you need to back the main gear right up to the start of the concrete, and have no pax or luggage, and only minimal fuel. Also accelerate with no flaps, and deploy them just as you hit V1.
