Rachael Glover. Was it you who submitted the FOI?   Why are you bothered.  Do you think it beyond realm of possibilities that someone you worked with may be fed up of your opinion and receive negativity and demoralised in the work place.  If I had written to the Minister I would be made up that he binned my letter before rats started running up the drainpipe looking for something to munch on, or someone!!

I know where you’re coming from. Rachel knows my views about her getting involved in the bitching. I have great respect for her, but still think she should not get involved in what is on a par with the Facebook shite.

I think she is enjoying the adulation and 5 minutes of fame to care much about others.   Next she will suddenly stand for election as the people’s saviour.   Bitches gonna bitch.

There are thousands of hard working front line staff who are in the front line army who saved lives this year, imagine if they all stood up to claim their job importance!   Whether a nurse, bin man, shop server or science worker like Gobby Glover , they are all equal-in service.

I think you're making yourself sound like a bit of a pillock with comments like 'bitches gonna bitch' and 'gobby glover'. She clearly knows her stuff, just take a look at her on Google Scholar. Most people at her level of knowledge and specialism just want to be able to use the knowledge and skills they've spent years of hard work on. And honestly, she probably has far better things to do with her time than run for MHK.

A lot of these front-line staff aren't in the position to stick their heads above the parapet and speak out about what is actually going on on the island, and realistically, how many of your mates down the pub, or how many bin men, whilst they do a very needed job, would be able to source the reagents for PCR testing and get the machine up and running in the middle of a pandemic?

Or are you trying to cheer Howie and Ashy up because the mean lady pointed out what they were doing wrong?

All soap opera goes back to when Dr Glover was told because she was not "employed" by DHSC her professional judgement on testing would not be considered by LegCO when forming COVID testing policy. Some people, likely most, would have left it at that, but Dr Glover kicked off a bit, and then we had #lettergate, and now we have #spreadergate... All bit ridiculous, but press must love having some good stories to run.

When was LegCo ever the body tasked with forming testing policy, on the advice or Rachel, or anyone else?

You don’t half post some rubbish.

I think spreadergate is a whole different issue than shreddergate!

It was Josem of Lib Vannin who submitted the FOI request.

What's unfair about your comments about Dr Glover, is that her comments aren't aimed at the ordinary front-line staff. Her "beef" is that the politicians and senior leaders didn't draw on her expertise when formulating testing policy.

The political response was dismissive - focusing on her employment status rather than expertise. She resigned from whatever role she had.

Bit of a storm in teacup, really. It reflects badly on the decision making process in Government and Quayle's attitude raised questions. But a line could have been drawn.

But the letter turned up. There's no suggestion that the writer is a front line nurse or doctor or even one of the lab. It might be someone with a grudge.  It's most likely to be one of the leadership group. In any case it is one person's opinion and because they've chosen anonymity we're not in position to weigh it's validity.

Now this letter was to the Minister of Health, from a member of his department staff, alleging poor morale in the department. That's a staffing matter. The minister reads it out at press conference in direct response to a question about Dr Glover. Then shreds the letter.

Is that the Government's Grievance Process? Reading the letter was out of order. An employee whether permanent, temporary or a contractor is owed a duty of care by their employer and Ashford breached his duty of care towards Dr Glover at that moment.

The shreading of the letter is also wrong. It means we don't know that he read it all, or correctly and there are inaudible bits. I'm not sure what Josem was after in submitting the FOI request. But in a way that's a side issue. What matters is this letter from an employee alleging poor staff morale isn't available internally either. It's not beyond the realms of possibility it could become relevant to future disciplinary or grievance cases, we saw how dimly the Industrial Tribunal viewed Bus Vannin's cavalier approach to record keeping and processes.

TL:DR - Someone in Dr Glover's position should be able to raise concerns about the decision making process at the top of government. The letter-writer and minister have unfairly sought to de-legitimise her opinion and re-position it as an attack on the hard-working staff. But to do that publicly breaches the duty of care he has to her as a sometime member of his Department Staff.

Back of the net, Declan!

The language and phraseology used in several letters and Facebook posts now suggests that we have professional outraged content writers within the higher echelons of the DHSC all claiming they are being hard done or de-motivated or are considering leaving because of public scrutiny etc, etc.

Policy should have been handled behind closed doors and people paid to deal with general public for example MHKs should have performed that role. Dr Glover ideally should never have been in public domain. Now she has to face random insults from random people on social media.
