To be fair most youngsters aren’t going to listen to two fat middle aged white blokes telling them what’s good for them. They need people who can engage and inspire, not hector and patronise.

Like who?

Two young and slim black women? Would they be better in engaging and inspiring?

Who is being patronising here?

So is it safe to vaccinate pregnant women or not?

https://news.yahoo.com/cdc-walks-back-director-comments-172614386.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9kYWlseXN0b3JtZXIuc3Uv&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAB3YQuNVltjGWUkDoLNoe_alMe0M1M2BHHCXpA7E7ErFPMQ0YkUaERDw6xlB64gmUWhTHyVTkFyGjvEt0Wo612VYsP7T0ukj0cU2VMe5RxJE_OcptGkXZke7yXCPenhq9ykLk3wVRZxLyYvzqvj_CABywncPkM9lE0y8Pj7Jlb7S

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention walked back a statement by the agency’s director regarding coronavirus vaccines for pregnant women."

"However, the CDC said on Tuesday that its guidelines for pregnant women who wish to receive a coronavirus vaccine have not changed since they were initially released in March. Those guidelines state that “if you are pregnant, you may choose to receive a COVID-19 vaccine” but caution pregnant women to weigh the risks posed by vaccination and the virus against one another. The guidelines do not explicitly “recommend” that pregnant women get vaccinated, as Walensky suggested Friday."

Most 20-somethings I know have booked, or already had, their vaccinations. Though for that age group the reasons do skew more towards altruism or desire for normality rather than avoidance of covid-19. Having said that, I also know people in that age group who had covid-19 last year and still have no sense of smell or taste today.

There’s a number of 40/50 year olds who seem to be anti vaxxers rather than younger ones. A few we know who are normally very sensible seem to subscribe to some of the conspiracy theories eg it’s big pharmaceutical pushing it, long term effects of vaccine etc etc

Can’t get my head around what’s going on in India. The biggest exporter of vaccine, and yet the country is going through hell. Is the government there really more interested in making money than helping its citizens? Certainly looks that way.

The Serum Institute of India, which is manufacturing most of the vaccine (certainly oxastra) is a private company.

What's going on in India is exactly what was predicted, except maybe it was later than expected.

Complacency, arrogance, stupidity etc.

I have a feeling that the island had Covid without knowing it for the last 20+ years.

This would explain the dire restaurants and eateries the island is full of, the chefs quite clearly are suffering long Covid with no sense of taste or smell.

An Indian friend of mine thinks they’ve chosen this as the lesser of two evils. Millions live a literal hand-to-mouth existence there and the only way to prevent the current carnage is to lockdown. That would, he thinks, lead to more dying from starvation, or basically wouldn’t happen as non-compliance/rioting/anarchy would ensue.

We’re so lucky here in Western Europe - as bad as social restrictions have been for some businesses, mental health etc, nobody has starved to death. There are many worse places to live through a pandemic - India is clearly one of them.
