The IOM GOVERNMENT don't like to privatize anything hence the reason Post Office still state controlled, similar to NSC,Villa, cafes, airport, ferry port, boats etc etc.

if they were privatized then losses would stop but job losses would happen.

Isn't privatisation of some of these things an ultimate goal of the Treasury SAVE strategy?

To give a little perspective on this, when I was a postman it was expected and a given that every scrap of mail was delivered by xmas eve. A "clear office " as it was known. To achieve this required a lot of overtime & mutual goodwill, not to mention frayed tempers and being absolutely knackered. I am told that  not one person has put their name down for overtime this year. Not one. A clear indication of industrial relations there ?

It's a complicated situation. A mate tells me that a couple of years ago some of the local posties were dumped on by not having the overtime that they'd already worked honoured and paid. Hence the response in following years by declining to work subsequently requested overtime. But the PO has hugely cut overtime anyway in the name of trying to balance its books, that's why there's no longer a Saturday letters delivery service, it was overtime. And any Saturday sorting work is now largely done by casual staff brought in on ZHC. Whether this would result in a "clear office" by Xmas remains to be seen.

Well I know several who have already done overtime to clear backlog so stop making things up, you were obviously one of the lazy sods they got rid of!

And you know how in the modern days they don't deliver anymore on a Saturday?

Given the supposed backlog I did think that Saturday deliveries would have been done for at least the 2 before Xmas.

I haven't had a parcel delivered on a Saturday since all Saturday deliveries were axed.

While letters are in decline, parcel volumes continue to increase as a result of the sustained growth in e-commerce. To satisfy this demand, IOMPO will continue to deliver parcels and time-guaranteed services such as Special Delivery and tracked items six days a week, Monday to Saturday.

The posties I know are great, hard at it but speaking to one this week they still have problems with some militant ones and loads are of sick which you always seem get when your salary is guaranteed  while some will be genuinely ill a lot will be playing the system.

Postie delivering right now in Castletown, so they're obviously trying to do something about the backlog.

I have a parcel 24 supposedly scanned as out for delivery at 4am on Friday, still not arrived so they must have a heck of a backlog.

Never had a Saturday parcel delivery since regular service went to 5 days a week no matter what service I choose. Often see them in Douglas delivering on a Saturday so perhaps we now have a two tier system with only urban areas getting a service on a Saturday.

For all their faults Hermes delivers 7 days a week and the tracking information is much better. My current courier is excellent.
