IOM Government - Missing in Action

So on Facebook now we have Devon Watson who has stepped up to the plat and has given everyone an overview and suggestions with regard to the Global Pandemic (because that’s what it is, and whether it’s here or not, it’s coming)

We also have Dr Rachel Glover giving clarification on testing.

Both, calm, in control and once more, you can hear a sigh of relief go round Facebook.

This is what happens when two intelligent, empathic, knowledgable people decide, individually, to step up to the plate because they can see trouble brewing and people starting to panic  (and whether it’s right or wrong, it really is brewing and it needs a lid on it). Their actions have calmed people  Not enough, but enough for now

There are probably people in government who could do the same and do it well but they’re on holiday, or they’re across, or they’d have to ring so and so to get clearance and then  somebody else to after what to write and how to say it  or some other buggery bollocks.

We do have good people in government and they’re probably sitting at home now frustrated at being a part of something so shit when all they ever wanted to do was help

So, that leaves us with the other two..

Where the fuck are they?

I think you have covered the bit that frustrates me about this whole pandemic from a local sense.

Grass roots, basic leadership where we either have a calming influential person or people with open dialogue with our Island.

Daily briefings didn’t give us that, they were excruciating. The Covid website was nearly there but it’s a faceless page.

Charismatic, honest leadership - a Unicorn in Manx politics by the looks of it but even still, recognising that and having a spokesperson interacting would be a positive step.

Facebook is and always will be a podium for flannels and people who want to offload nonsense.

Spot on .

I suspect you are right about the "good people in Government" who are unable to 'speak out' as  part of their contract of employment .

I remember investigating outbreaks of TB/Typhoid/Polio back in the 60's in Lancashire and being instructed not to speak to anyone .

If , as I suspect, a similar culture exists within IOM Gov and we have to rely on Politicians /Senior CS's with, at best,  a rudimentary grasp of the management of infectious diseases to advise and inform then I'll make my own arrangements to try  and stay safe.

Just saying:flowers:

So Howard is pleased that there were, so far, only negative test results. That's all very well but as we know, those two vectors tested negative after TWO WEEKS. This surely means that those recent negative tests are in fact, meaningless. It is a distinct possibility that those who received a negative result might feel they've eluded contamination when in reality, they haven't. Surely it would be prudent to advise that those attending for a test on the back of possible contact with others, should therefore be persuaded to attend for a second test in a fortnight before assuming they're free from the virus?

it would suit most folks if they stayed fucked off and said nothing.

It was certainly interesting watching how things played out and how the two commentators said exactly what was needed without ayone having to tell them to do so. Also interesting to see how positive people were about their contributions.  Most unusual but very welcome.

This should really be moved to the Covid thread Quilp.  This is just to moan about the lack of response.
