That’s sums up most events in Britain to be fair.

The Royal Show. Glastonbury. The Grand National. Trooping of the Colour. British Grand Prix.

The old format was losing its appeal for a number of reasons such as public appetite for two weeks of road closures plus competitors teams and marshals having to take so much time out of work and have so many nights in paid accommodation.  They tried something new and for a lot of people it worked betters. Yes if it had rained it would have been an issue but that has always been a problem.

Hopefully th new format will be retained but with provision for more closures so they have a bit more flexibility of the weather is bad.

Please enlighten us, when the format of the other events have been changed by Government.  Also where is the data to prove that the public were unhappy with the old racing format. The lack of information on the road closures during this shambles was appalling.

It was pretty bad to be fair. They should have taken more time to advertise the closures especially as people aren’t used to the new format.

And of course there was no changes to the schedule at any time during this new and improved format of the grand prix.

All there were were delays and use of the widely publicised contingency sessions?  What could they have done better?

There were changes which resulted in fewer road closures.

Old version                                                             New version

Practice week             race week                          Practice week             race week

Sat                              Sat                                       Sun                              Mon

Mon                            Mon                                      Mon

Tue                             Wed                                      Tue

Wed                           Fri                                          Wed

Thur                                                                         Thur

Fri                                                                             Fri

So aside from moving the first practice from Sat to Sun and having no race week at all after the bank holiday the format was pretty much the same. And of course the roads didn't close at all on the Friday.

Wasn't the racing on a Tuesday and Thursday at one time? , cannot recall when it changed @Max Power may remember.

Newsdesk, right then. I'd be looking at changing your name there to something that can keep up to date with what's going on around you.!?

To be honest it seems to happen every GP.  People seem to pay attention to the TT closures but not GP.  There is always at least one day where Douglas seems to get completely gridlocked.

Up until the introduction of classic races in 1984 it was a two day race programme with only three races. In fact there were only two races in the programme up until 1964.

But there were  at least 125 entries in the races then  and the boys managed to do up to 25 laps of practice   there was a motorcycle  trial on the same week  the town was full of motorcycle enthusiasts  quite different from the TT visitors  more the purist , and also time to spend going round the various towns  helping the retail and hospitality sector to survive ,  the Manx could still be a massive boost for tourism ,but alas I think someone has an agenda to price the running of it into the ground , as an excuse to curtail  activities  , but beware  the  dumbing down to limited entries  demise and possible  cancelling of the Manx Grand prix , will sound the death nell  of the TT, and road racing in the Isle of Man ,

I was surprised today talking to a few shopkeepers in Peel. All of them recounted tales of disgruntled overseas bikers who only found out about the re-hashed MGP plans when they got here.

Told today that there will be a announcment on MGP dates tomorrow.
