The reason for no operations taking place where an overnight stay is required is a shortage of beds at Nobles

The shortage is caused by older patients not being discharged even though they are clinically fine

There are insufficient places where the elderly can rehabilitate outside of Nobles

Newlands had that capability but was shut down by govt

Re beds at Nobles - that information would be clinically confidential unless you have stats to demonstrate it to be the case.

The figures from this mornings bed state meeting would show that.

So................No comment then on old people taking up space when they don't need to. No evidence to back it up.

Nice to hear DA go back on what he said last year about never again using the Private Patient Unit for NHS patients.

It belongs to the public David. You can not steal it for the favoured few.

I see even smear tests have gone now as they have no resource. Great way to prevent people not dying of cancer. Odd they can find the resource to stick a swab up someone’s nose but not up their Fanny.

Perhaps they should just put up another tent at the grandstand. Get the missus to lie down in the back of the estate, and as long as you join the right queue, jobs a goodun.

After backlash, Ramsey GP practice doing them, another blunder by health!

I am informed that no elective operation that requires overnight stay has taken place for quite some time due to bed shortages. I hope to hear more on this topic tomorrow

Bit there are 400 beds available, more like crap management

Does anyone here require an operation of any kind at Nobles?

The reason I ask is that I was wondering what is being done and how waiting lists have been impacted.

I know someone who needs an operation and they've been told, in their case, operations had been on hold, they hoped to commence soon and the waiting list was over a year.

I'm kind of wandering - given covid hasn't seemed to have  impacted on the hospital in terms of covid admissions, what is stopping operations taking place?

Any ideas folks?

From IOM Today
A clinical team from the company - including consultants, surgeons, nurses and theatre practitioners - will travel to the island to conduct around 2,500 endoscopy and cataract procedures at Noble’s.

Clearly Nobles has not been overwhelmed - thank goodness - but it may be worth a mention that today there are 14 Covid19 infection cases in Noble's. One of them in ICU and I hear that case is not the same one as earlier this week.
