Wow, just wow. The incompetence at that place clearly knows no bounds. Or knew, as this would have been past management. Let’s hope the new director has a minimum of competence in anything.

Really upset? Oh, boo hoo.

Somebody needs to tell the man he's the Minister in charge and that comes with the non-optional responsibility of getting a grip of his f@cking Department (which he stated he wanted to do when asking for the position, IIRC).

That could include finding out who ordered internal barriers rather than external and subjecting them to some sort of Departmental disciplinary process given the expense and losses that this farce has incurred.

The fact is though that this “excuse” is utter bullshit. It is nothing to do with the barriers..more about the fact the payment terminals can’t accept the new English pound coins I was told.

Looks like Dim Tim has been fed a crock by his managers.

when the treasury produced £1 coins in the past from Pobjoy mint they used to  purchase  the same blanks that the UK used ,so when the  Manx coins were minted  they had a different symbol stamped on them for the isle of man .but were the same weight ,so they could be used in all the coin operated machines on the isle of man , since the change to the new mint and coin producer  this does not happen  anymore and the coin weights are  different from the UK ,

How stupid is that  when we know there are no coin operated  machines made specifically for Manx coins

I think Hendo  is still in charge of coins in the treasury ?

Should they be offering a cash option anyway?.

If necessary have a £5 or £10 minimum charge for cash payments at a machine located in the terminal, people will soon manage to use contactless.

Having said that I bet the app will be like the NHS and Everbridge apps and not be available in the IOM on Android.

I'm ok with contactless but why an app? Is it another unnecessary complication?

Absolutely. It has disaster written all over it.

They should just scrap the Manx pound coins now and go back to the notes, like Jersey and Guernsey. The Manx coins just confuse English tourists. They like the notes and take them as souvenirs, each of which is a gift to the iom government.

1. The existing barriers have been in place 10-12 years. Even if they were designed to be internal, which I don’t for a minute believe, that’s not a bad life span.

As for the coin weight, BoE wouldn’t let us have the bimetallic blanks for “security” reasons. Agree APNR and Contactless, or an APNR system linked to terminals in the Airport into which you could type your registration. That helps avoid long queues at the actual barriers.
