snowman
Context: Latest Cirium data shows nearly 7300 departing flights have been cancelled in UK / Europe so far in July. This is 3% of all planned flights and up 237% on same period in July 2019. Most flights cancelled from: Norway (1550 due to @SAS); Germany (1130); France (580); UK (520) If you think a new airport director is going to sort out the current cancellations and delays your deluded. There's an industry wide problem. Partly caused by lack of staff and over commitment of resources

There's an industry wide problem. Partly caused by lack of staff and over commitment of resources True. But once those industry wide issues have been resolved, we will still be left with an airport that can’t deal with low visibility conditions, and an open skies policy which sees us down at the lower end of the priorities of certain carriers who grace us with their presence. Our air links are vital to us as we are a small island nation, we should be doing everything within our power to ensure they are as reliable as possible. There is a lot of work to be done in that regard. Edited July 16, 2022 by madmanxpilot
snowman
The last thing the airlines want to do is give each passenger £220 compensation and expenses. I'm sure the operators are well aware that they need to improve 😃 Edited July 16, 2022 by snowman

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would book the next flight, for example 5.40pm or 6pm to Liverpool, rather than boat and overnight taxi. It was cancelled 4 hours ago so there would have been more options than the two above including two other flights to London and a Manchester. I agree that having that type of connection is risky, but when it's about 1% it's acceptable. Right now, it is running at around 25%, which is very different. At least, on this occasion, disrupted passengers have a few hours to try and work out an alternative routing.
