OBJECTION TO CANDIDATE REJECTED BY RETURNING OFFICER Candidate for the House of Keys Rob Callister objected to the nomination of Peter Willers who is also a candidate in the constituency of Onchan. Apparently Mr Callister objected because Mr Willers had not announced his candidature prior to the last day of nominations 25th August. The returning officer rejected Mr Callister’s objection and Mr Willers is therefore a legitimate candidate for election. Is this for real? He objected because someone declared just before the cutoff (same has happened in Ramsey). Please tell me he didn’t really object to a hit of very poor competition

Surely he has zero pull with the people of onchan? Shame David Quirk didn't run, Rob would have been really worried then.

Except if you look at section 2.2 of the Guidance it doesn't say anything of the sort. It's more concerned with the point that it doesn't matter when you declare, your expenses are considered to start a year before election day. Rob never saw a hole that didn't make him want to get out his spade.

Or maybe he has some professional dealings, from his previous employment? In a way by objecting, RC is coming across as a bullying self serving establishment figure, self entitled with a divine right to rule Onchan.
Banker
Apparently Cherry has posted a fake video purportedly of John Bercow supporting his campaign, what a dick!
Declan
Well it’s not fake. It’s one of those videos where you pay a minor celeb to send you a message. And Bercow’s is more of a pep talk wishing him good luck IF James is from the democratic centre, and committed to public service than an endorsement. https://fb.watch/7DOmtl6H5G/ Pretty amusing though.

He only admitted it was a paid for video after criticism online, seems a clear attempt to mislead voters

He actually paid someone to endorse him in a video. There must be laws against that as there must be some idiots somewhere who thought it was a genuine endorsement from Bercow not something the sad case paid to have sent to himself. Yes - paid. I don't think Bercow did endorse him, he's surely not that stupid or skint that he needs to endorse random candidates for money. He doesn't say "Everybody should vote for James", he just wished him well. Also Bercow probably didn't intend it for public use. I imagine it would be like Mummy and Daddy paying Brian Cox to send a message to Junior before his Physics exam wishing him good luck. Brian wouldn't expect Junior to just submit the message on the exam paper with the words "Brian Cox thinks I'm a top Physikist" Doesn't reflect well on Bercow though.

2112
I think it speaks volumes as to the calibre and standard of candidates standing in the General Election. Onchan seems tribal and parish pump, also coupled with the antics of James Cherry, Rob Callister and his objection to candidates. It will be interesting to see if candidates accept the results at the count, or demand recounts?
