2112
The Nations Propaganda Mouthpiece has announced that HRH The Chief Minister has been awarded a CBE in the Queens Birthday Honours, in recognition of his achievements in the Islands COVID 19 battle. Christopher Sharpe of the Manx Bird Atlas gets an MBE. Joan Marilyn Cannell gets a BEM for services to Kirk Michael and to the Guild. Quite frankly a lot of decent people who contribute to island life, and are sadly unappreciated and not rewarded. The same applies to charity, fundraisers and trustees. Yet again our Politicos get rewarded, it’s galling, yes he was successful with the first wave of the pandemic, but this years super screw up to end all screw ups and his total mess of the Steam Packet outbreak, seems to be rewarded. Deserved? Not really, but as he is going, he can have time to apply for grants, farming and other handouts. Former Chief Minister Allan Bell was awarded a CBE, not the best leader, loads of skeletons and proven criticism but by far a better CM. Discuss.

The awarding of honours to our politicos, is out of order. HRH The Chief Minister was an MHK for 10 years. People have short memories, he messed up the Health Service, made terrible recruitment decisions which cost the island dearly. Totally ineffective as a leader, look at how the DOI been allowed to hold this island to ransom ……….. enough said, a good legacy!

There are plenty of incompetence MHKs. By the logic and the award rate our politicos are given gongs, it won’t be long before the Peoples Prince gets a honour for services to granny farming on the island. Also bear in mind Mr Squeaker will probably get a gong, the next Squeaker will probably get one, along with the next El Presidente. Could anyone be happy if Laurence Skelly got a gong, for services to the TT? Laughable but it could happen.
Gladys
Isn't it almost automatic if you have held certain positions? TBH, I feel less bothered about this than other awards. HQ is at the end of his political career. Others are not, so there is more scope for over inflated egos to continue messing up.
TheTeapot
Oh how lovely for Howard, richly deserved after all his hard work keeping the island safe despite all the doubters. You people just don't appreciate what he does in your name. 1 3 1

You only need to hear some stories from his time as minister at DHSS . A complete disaster . And his performance since just before New Year onwards has been a car crash . And his total failure to get a grip on DOI says it all. Remember when PM asked him about the prom on the day of Princess Anne's visit and all he could do was laugh . No he's a buffon who now has a CBE omg ! Edited June 11, 2021 by Numbnuts

It’s often assumed that the top position is awarded a gong, but should be not the case. It’s strange, some previous MHKs have served many years in various guises of MHKs and MLCs, to a varying degree of uselessness. 10 years as an MHK is no time, and what’s his legacy? Are we going to rename Central and Queens Promenade, Howard Quayle Way?

I doubt anything is going to be named in his honour, apart from the Liverpool landing stage, which could be Howard's Quay, perhaps? 1
