Apologies for topic title.

Trying to do it before the footie kicks off.

Actually, don't know what to call it as it seems a little far fetched. Are they trying to compete with Port St Mary ??

  • slinkydevil changed the title to Onchan spends thousands on legal fees battling own member

You would have thought that you would have heard the views of the current and reigning MHKs of the Parish, Julie Edge and Rob Callister.

Very Poor they have remained silent. Poor that they haven’t used skills that MHKs should have and use, which is the ability to get involved, criticise and engage with the parish pump thus preventing overriding clashes of egos, and the need to get lawyers involved.

Perhaps the 2 current and reigning MHKs of the Parish hold the same views of the local parish pump commissioners as regards one of their own renegade members? Maybe they should issue a statement either supporting the waste of ratepayers funds, or criticising the commissioners actions?

There was actually a previous thread on this topic, though I can see why people may have been misled by the title "Youth Gone Wild in Onchan" when it is actually Old People Remaining Bonkers in Onchan.

@ Roger Mexico Thanks, found this in that thread.

So this costs about £8k of advocates expertise then. Are there no rules about what local authorities can spend ratepayers money on ?. I might consider standing if this is the case.

It's crazy but is in keeping with government bodies just throwing money down the pan

It can be added on to DBC spending £24k contesting a £5k sick pay case? PSM Town Clerk investing £250k in Manxonia House? There must be a few more salient examples too. The financial conduct of some of these LAs and individuals is clearly out of control with consideration for where the money is actually coming from not a priority.

The scary thing is that these people then use this as a spring board to become a member of the House of Keys. No wonder the Island ends up with so many problems.

Exactly my point. And there is no explanation as to how or why these expenses are incurred.

Precisely. Surely the best test for an MHK is how they have performed locally beforehand as a commissioner and councillor, passionate about effective public services and value for money, who have the potential to serve on a national level. At least then MHKs would have some idea of how the system works (and how to change it).

I have met some switched on councillors and commissioners who would make very good MHKs and be able to hit the ground running. We need that in the next administration - too much on the agenda.
